First new timetable of the year: Bus Timetable 21 effective 28 January. No doubt more changes will be announced within the next couple of weeks - we already know there'll be an update/reprint of the 930 timetable - and details of the proposed Yanchep network shouldn't be too far away either.
Route 253 - Additional Services
Wed 31 Jan

From Wednesday 31 January 2024, Transperth will operate a small number of additional school days only trips on the Route 253 bus service between Jarrahdale, Mundijong, Byford and Armadale Station.

The new services will provide for improved travel opportunities to Court Grammar School and Byford Secondary College as well as provide a new travel option for students attending Salvado Catholic College and improved commuter access into Armadale.

In early 2024 new bus stops will be installed on Chestnut Road, King Jarrah Circle, Marginata Parade and Jarrahdale Road in Jarrahdale, in addition to those stops already present along the route.

Routes 251, 252 and 254 will also undergo minor time changes to coincide with this service change.

The new bus Timetable 21 will become effective Sunday 28 January, with additional school day only trips commencing Wednesday 31 January 2024. Students attending private schools which elect to commence classes prior to the State Government gazetted term commencement (Wednesday 31 January) should note that additional school day only services will not operate until State schools commence on Wednesday 31 January.

The Transperth JourneyPlanner and Contact Centre will be updated with additional services above from mid January 2024 to include the new services.

Families currently being transported by School Bus Services have been contacted directly about the withdrawal of selected orange school bus services and to advise of individual Route 253 trips relevant for their children. For information concerning your changing entitlement, please contact School Bus Services. For information concerning Route 253 please contact the Transperth InfoLine from mid-January.

Re: PTA / Transperth Service Changes 2024

As expected, service changes across the network are happening in time for school to commence. Key points are:
  • A new route 249 serving Rowley Road, Hilbert, starting with a peak-only service that will presumably be expanded later on similar to route 569 in Baldivis
  • Victoria Park Transfer Station renamed Causeway Bus Station, I assume to reduce confusion with Victoria Park train station (which now also has a bus transfer)
  • Route 221 will reduce to a 10 minute frequency between Armadale and Kelmscott in the morning peak (Kelmscott to Perth is unaffected)
  • A selection of routes will have trips added, mostly around weekday peak times
  • And of course the usual grab-bag of school service changes

I note (with some interest) quite a few of the school-related changes seem to be curtailing the number of trips that deviate via a school, instead opting to commence trips separately from those schools... too many students running amok, aggravating the general public and causing a continuous stream of complaints? Or perhaps too much congestion around schools blowing out journey times and causing (cascading) late running?
Additional high capacity articulated buses have also been added to a number of services
Has someone in the hierarchy finally figured out Karrinyup has a fleet of relatively new, low-floor artics just itching to be used on busy services!?

Personally I've driven both 320 and 321 service deviations through parkerville. Both these deviations need to go as no one gets on on/off. Why pay for ks when no one uses them

Or perhaps too much congestion around schools blowing out journey times and causing (cascading) late running?
Just flicked through the new timetables, and it looks like there are some huge time savings for general passengers where those additional school trips have been introduced. Typically around 15 minutes or so, but nearly half an hour on the 2:39pm 519 trip ex-Murdoch :!:

It will be interesting to see the outcome of this one:
Have your say on proposed changes to Route 508

We’re seeking feedback on proposed changes to Route 508 in Ferndale.

Route 508 is proposed to be rerouted away from a section of Ferndale Crescent and onto Blancoa Road in Ferndale.

This new alignment would speed up journey times for the majority of passengers while also saving resources. These savings would be reinvested into Route 508 to double the frequency on Sundays/Public Holidays from the current 60 minute frequency, to an improved 30 minute frequency throughout most of the day.

The below bus stops would be removed, however new bus stops would be placed along Blancoa Road on the new route alignment.

Bus stop pairs to be removed

20225 (Ferndale Crescent after Crocus Way)
20224 (Ferndale Crescent before Crocus Way)

20226 (Ferndale Crescent after Glen Court)
20223 (Ferndale Crescent before Narval Way)

20227 (Ferndale Crescent before Spey Place)
20222 (Ferndale Crescent before Spey Place)

20228 (Ferndale Crescent after Bern Road)
20221 (Ferndale Crescent before Bern Road)

20229 (Ferndale Crescent before Lambertia Way)
20220 (Ferndale Crescent after Lambertia Way)

20230 (Ferndale Crescent after Lambertia Way)
20219 (Ferndale Crescent after Karri Way)

Not dissimilar to the change made to the 160 some years back that saw the time-wasting lap of Weber Reserve, Willagee deleted - although that was kept during the daytime as a deviation. That particular timetable change fixed most of the chronic late-running issues with that route too, so safe to say the savings were reinvested.

I'm more interested in 507 getting upgraded to 15 minute frequency like 915.

Proposed bus network changes in conjunction with the Yanchep Rail Extension when the section between Butler and Yanchep commences operations later this year. The changes will see Two Rocks served by a new Route 498 and new terminus, as well as other new and amended routes to service the new stations which can be found in the link below.

Good to see it's a more developed network than originally proposed for day one (from the Metronet PDP summary)

Peak frequencies are every 20 minutes north of Eglinton and every 10 minutes south of there, with the exception of route 479 (Clarkson route every 20 minutes) and possibly 481 (stated every 10-20 minutes)

Interpeak, every route will run every 30 minutes except for 496 which will be every hour. Weekends will be hourly on all routes, except the 492 will be every 30 minutes on Saturdays to preserve the current frequency along Marmion Avenue. As usual there's no mention of evening frequencies. Overall this continues the trend of feeder routes to new stations getting better frequencies than the average suburban bus route.

Route numbers 480, 481 and 482 are being reshuffled to run sequentially west-east, so 480 = current 481, 481 = current 482, 482 = current 480. Not sure this is worth the confusion that changing numbers will cause TBH.

Route 483 will be straightened to run the length of Baltimore Parade, reinstating the pre-Freeway route along Hester Avenue. At the northern end of Baltimore it will turn directly to Lukin Drive, something that was proposed back in 2004 but never implemented.

The northern sections of 483 and 484 will be split off into new routes 487 and 488. 487 in particular looks odd right now, extending north along Piazza Link before returning south along Howden Pde back to the current terminus but this is only temporary.

New routes 479, 485, 491 and 495 will serve many of the newish housing estates in the area for the first time. Route 498 (replacing the current 490) will cover newly developed areas in Two Rocks, and the above mentioned 487 will do likewise in Alkimos. Not convinced any of this had to wait for the railway extension (incomplete road networks are a problem for some routes but clearly not all) but it's a welcome improvement nonetheless.

It seems the only hope for bus network expansion recently has been funding tipped in as a result of "big projects", plus the occasional piecemeal expansions to already-frequent services. Not really surprising, that with so many projects focussing on outer suburbia, the push for "mid-tier transport" has been led by Councils much closer to the CBD (although the Thornlie-Cockburn link, and Bayswater Station works will theoretically allow some sort of reorganisation in those areas). Given there's about a year to go until the next election, I imagine there will be a few cash splashes on seats more likely to be lost to the Liberals or Greens... Maybe the established suburbs will finally score some improvements out of that?

That would've been a nice one to have as part of the Armadale Line shutdown changes, though obviously was not to be.

It is included as a future route shown in the Cannington Station development application though (either 920 or 925, with the other being the current route 100). Interestingly the new 36 and 51 are also shown as long-term additions to the network with better frequencies than today, though 907 and 908 obviously aren't

But wait there's more!

Proposed Bayswater Station network: https://www.mysaytransport.wa.gov.au/ba ... us-network
Map: https://www.mysaytransport.wa.gov.au/91 ... nts/277428

Route 42 is the big winner, virtually doubling its service throughout the week.

On the other hand the frequency along Guildford Road will be halved between Maylands and King William Street. South of Maylands the combined frequency looks basically unchanged.
Bayswater Station Bus Network

With the completion of the bus link at Bayswater Station, Transperth is reviewing the Guildford Road bus Routes 41, 42, 48 and 55 bus services. The proposed service changes include route realignments, frequency changes and renumbering of services.

These service changes are being proposed to provide service improvements and provide greater access for the community and transfer opportunities at Bayswater Station to Perth CBD, Airport line and soon to be completed Ellenbrook line.

We’d like your feedback on the proposed service changes.

When reviewing the service information, please note that frequencies are approximate.

This consultation will be open from Monday 29 January until 4pm Friday 16 February 2024.

The following suburbs may be affected:

Highgate
Mount Lawley
Maylands
Bayswater
Ashfield
Bassendean

Route 41
  • Is proposed to extend to Bayswater Station via Sutherland Street and King William Street
  • This will provide a new connection to Bayswater Station for residents south of Guildford Road
  • Route 41 is proposed to operate approximately:
    Every 15 minutes in peak
    Every 60 minutes interpeak
Every 60 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays
  • A small number of additional trips will operate.
Route 42
  • Is proposed to undergo a route change travelling via Eighth Avenue and extending on Clarkson Avenue terminating near the Maylands Police Complex
  • All trips will travel via Eighth Avenue (no longer travelling via Central Avenue or deviating via Ninth Avenue) providing significantly improved connectivity and bus frequency to the Maylands Town Centre and trip attractors near Guildford Road
  • Bus stops would be removed on Central Avenue and East Street, with new bus stops proposed on East Street (east of Peninsula Road) and alternatives stops also available on Guildford Road
  • The service would be extended on Clarkson Avenue terminating near the Clarkson Avenue boat ramp carpark providing better public transport access to Maylands Water Park and Maylands Police Complex
  • Due to high demand this will receive a significant frequency upgrade
  • Route 42 is proposed to operate approximately:
    Every 7/8 minutes in peak
    Every 30 minutes interpeak
Every 30 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays
Will operate earlier and later services than current timetable.
New Route 43 (previously known as Route 48)
  • Is proposed to undergo a route change travelling via Beechboro Road South and Hudson Street in Bayswater
  • This will provide better access to public transport for resident’s northeast of Bayswater Station and reduce duplication with the Circle Route on Coode Street
  • This service would no longer travel via Francis and Drake Street
  • Some additional trips will operate with increased short trips between Morley Bus Station and Bayswater Station
  • Route 43 is proposed to operate:
    Every 15 minutes in peak
Every 60 minutes interpeak (every 30 minutes between Morley Bus Station and Bayswater Station)
Every 60 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays
  • A small number of additional short trips will operate between Morley Bus Station and Bayswater Station.
New Route 44 (previously known as Route 55)
  • New Route 44 will operate between Bassendean Town Centre and Bayswater Station following a similar alignment to the former Route 55 in Bassendean and Ashfield
  • Different to the former Route 55 service, it is proposed that Route 44 operate via Dunstone and Wyatt Road and terminating at Bayswater Station
  • This will reduce walking distance to public transport for residents west of Tonkin Hwy
  • Some bus stops (which are very poorly patronised) would no longer be served in the Ashfield/Bayswater industrial area on River Road, Goongarrie Road, and Katanning Street
  • Passengers travelling to Perth CBD can transfer to a connecting train at Bayswater Station which operates approximately every 7-8 minutes throughout the day. The train from Bayswater to Perth Station takes 12-14 minutes resulting in a quicker journey time for passengers travelling to many key destinations. Note that later in 2024 when the Ellenbrook Line opens, train frequency will improve from every 6 minutes in peak to every 4 minutes, with off peak improving to every 5 minutes
  • Passengers needing to travel to Maylands, Highgate or Northbridge via bus will be able transfer to the Route 41 or 43 at Bayswater Station
  • Route 44 is proposed to operate approximately:
    Every 12 minutes in peak
    Every 60 minutes interpeak
Every 60 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public Holidays
  • Some additional trips will operate to allow for better transfer opportunities.
Route 48
Is proposed to be replaced by New Route 43.

Route 55
Is proposed to be replaced by New Route 44.

They were nowhere near as savage with (truncating) the Guildford Rd services as I thought they might be - I was expecting something quite radical that would shorten most of the routes, replacing them with a high-frequency route, and the 42 having some moderate enhancement given it has seemed so busy when I've used it in the past. Another brainwave I'd had was they might resurrect the erstwhile 43 to both remove another service from Guildford Rd, and give the Maylands Peninsula a connection to Bayswater Station; but I have to say the above proposal is superior, and less likely to upset everyone around Bayswater and Maylands.

Am guessing the peak service will be coordinated to 3-4mins, and with one less service along Guildford Rd, I wonder if the 42 won't also run half-hourly at night to plug the gap left by the 55?

I wonder if the CircleRoute might finally receive a Sunday upgrade given the extremely frequent service past Bayswater? The same could be asked of the Claremont - Shenton Park section, if not the whole thing.

Orrong Road hasn't had a bus running along a great length of it for a long time, if ever at all, so I think it needs both time, and good marketing, to change people's travel habits.

I think that's on the cards, but subject to the Maylands bus interchange and other road improvements going ahead. In particular they would need traffic lights at Guildford/Seventh (not scheduled until 2025-26) given that last time they tried running buses to Maylands, the local folk made it pretty clear they didn't want buses on Eighth Avenue. I assume we would eventually get a 930 or 995-type setup with through-running to the feeder routes, especially this close to the CBD.

End of an Era: With the proposed Bayswater route alterations and renumbering of Route 48 to Route 43 and Route 55 to Route 44, this brings an end to two services of long continuity within the network. If I am correct, Routes 41, 42, 48 and 55 have essentially been operating almost the same journeys since the formation of the MTT back in 1958. This just leaves Routes 41 and 42 but I am also wondering if Route 15 Perth to Glendalough and Route 19 Perth to Yokine might qualify too?

New TransBunbury timetables were also effective from 28 January. Route 843 now runs a 30-minute weekday frequency until just after midday towards Bunbury and between around 10am and 1pm towards Dalyellup, and has additional trips at peak times. However the Thursday night trips have been withdrawn network-wide.

In a move that's been a long time coming, "Armadale/Thornlie" Line trains will stop at Perth Stadium 7 days a week from the 2nd of April:
Media Statements WA wrote:Trains now stopping at Perth Stadium precinct seven days a week
28 February 2024

Food, fun, exhilaration, exercise, nature, and popular tourist attractions - everything the Perth Stadium precinct has to offer is now more accessible than ever with trains now stopping at Stadium Station seven days a week from Tuesday, 2 April 2024.
  • Trains to stop at Stadium Station every day of the week from Tuesday, 2 April 2024
  • Station previously accessible only on weekends, public holidays, and event days
  • People can travel to Stadium Station from anywhere on the network for no more than $5.10
Food, fun, exhilaration, exercise, nature, and popular tourist attractions - everything the Perth Stadium precinct has to offer is now more accessible than ever with trains now stopping at Stadium Station seven days a week from Tuesday, 2 April 2024.

Train access to Stadium Station has been limited to event days, weekends, and public holidays since the stadium opened in early 2018. Now, anyone wanting to visit the precinct can do so affordably and easily every day of the week, with the station just a short, five-minute train journey from the CBD.

With fares capped at two zones, people can travel to Stadium Station from anywhere in the wider metropolitan area for no more than $5.10 per ticket, and free for SmartRider holders every Sunday.

To facilitate work on several projects, Armadale Line trains are currently only running between Perth Station and Victoria Park Station. More information on replacement bus services can be found on the Transperth website.

The new daily services to Stadium Station will continue after the Armadale Line reopens.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The area around the stadium is a beautiful precinct that has plenty to offer outside of event days, from a picturesque waterside walk or cycle to the Matagarup Zip+Climb, sensory playground, parklands, barbeque and picnic facilities, and easy access to local businesses.

"Limiting public transport access to weekends and public holidays kept this world-class area inaccessible for many. Opening up Perth Stadium Station on weekdays will give both locals and tourists alike more opportunity to explore and enjoy the precinct, all for no more than $5.10 a ticket.

"The April 2 start date coincides with the first week of school holidays, and we hope many Western Australians will take advantage of the five-minute train journey from the city, and enjoy everything this area has to offer."
An official service update notice has not yet been uploaded to the Transperth website, nor has an updated timetable been made available as of yet.
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.

Purple CAT seems to be doing well despite heavily duplicating 24 and 103 because who in the right mind would wanna pay for a ticket to travel between PCH and EQBS? I'm not surprised it's cannibalised some of the load from 950 southern leg too.

That being said, I'd prefer either the Purple CAT or 103 to start from the Busport, giving PCH patients a direct link to Perth Central railway station.

Some more encouraging news, given that university patronage was reported to be a lot slower in bouncing back from Covid compared to the rest of the network.
Route 100 – Additional Services
Thu 07 Mar
