New timetable won't be waiting for the delayed, expected Q4 2024 opening of Stage 1 extension from Chatswood to Sydenham

Metro extension will likely open before this timetable change, to ensure Sydenham services are working as intended, have bedded in, and can take the busloads of passengers dropped there for onward journeys.

New T4 rail replacement bus services. All running between The T4 stations & Sydenham Station.

South Coast rail replacement still go to Central. Challenge is to get to Sutherland & take an express bus/coach.

In May, T3 & T8 (ex Macarthur only) terminate at Sydenham due to track work. Too early to say, but hints that Sydenham Metro should be open by then or at least the new train timetable.

Bus routes
13T4 Kogarah, Rockdale, then express to Wolli Creek and return
87T4 Hurstville, then all stations to Sydenham and return
90T4 Cronulla, then all stations to Miranda, then express to Sydenham and return
91T4 Waterfall, then all stations to Sutherland, then all stations to Miranda, then Sydenham and return
92T4 Sutherland, then all stations to Hurstville, then Sydenham and return
93T4 Hurstville, then Sydenham and return
97T4 Cronulla, then all stations to Sutherland, then Hurstville, then all stations to Sydenham and return

That is going to be a bit rough on 10th and 11th February with all T4 buses terminating at Sydenham and then having to catch T3 trains to/from the City with T4 trains only running between Central and Bondi Junction. https://transportnsw.info/alerts/details#/ems-27805

And while on replacement services, for the replacement services this weekend there is a special media release issued today https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/news-a ... rackwork-1

I have noticed that U-GO Mobility is involved again on route 33T4. Timetable is not available as yet but the trip finder shows that route as being operated by U=GO Mobility.

It looks like there will be 8 trains per hour between Sydenham and the City on the T3, i.e. twice the normal number.

The alert says "T3 Bankstown Line trains run between Sydenham and the City Circle." I had interpreted that as being the normal number of trains but if it is twice the normal number that would be a lot better. I think the alert should have mentioned that

I don't know where the extras start. I just did a random trip plan from Sydenham to Central.

As the alert says plan your trip with a link to journey planner. I doubt many T4 passengers have any idea as to the usual T3 frequency. Painful as making two changes may be, it can be a real slog getting in and out of Central. Presuming that services use West Connex, it may save a bit of time.

Looking at the platform numbers at Sydenham, I think they must be a shuttle between Sydenham and the City.

Buses go straight along Cleveland St, M1, The Grand Parade, Taren Point Road.

Extras will turn around at platform 4 as they did during the January T3 shutdown.

It is the Cleveland and South Dowling Street sections that services can end of crawling along given rail replacement services have an aversion to using the Eastern Distributor. By avoiding this and instead terminating at Sydenham, time may be saved by using the Sydney Gateway / West Connex.

The region 10 timetables for this school term dated 30th January have finally hit the Transport for NSW website but what the hell is going on.
I have looked at three timetables:
972 https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 240130.pdf
This has a footnote "g0 not 29.3.24, 17.4., 19.4., 24.4., 26.4., 10.7., 12.7.,
17.7., 19.7., 2.10., 4.10., 9.10., 11.10"
This present against all weekday trips from Soouthgate except the 16.06 trip which does the footnote against the trip to Southgate as well as 3 other trips.
971 https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 240130.pdf
Has two footnotes against all weekday trips except one school services with g1 against one trip and g0 against all but two trips.
g0 not 29.3.24, 17.4., 19.4., 24.4., 26.4., 10.7., 12.7.,
17.7., 19.7., 2.10., 4.10., 9.10., 11.10.
g1 Monday, Wednesday, Friday only, not 29.3.24, 1.4.,
15.4., 19.4., 22.4., 26.4., 10.6., 8.7., 12.7., 15.7., 19.7.,
30.9., 4.10., 7.10., 11.10.
Route 450 https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 240130.pdf
has a g0 footnote against all weekday trips.
I guess other routes also have this.

A new service pattern perhaps?

"Operates all weekdays except Wednesdays and Fridays during school holidays".

Looks like a rush job if you ask me, they obviously haven’t reviewed the docs before they were published.

U-Go have been active with rail replacement this year so far. In addition to the above: 41T4, 42T4, 43T4 & 11T8.

Not sure when this was implemented, but previously when there was weeknight trackwork on the North Shore line, buses would continue through to Town Hall and Central (12T1/15T1/16T1).

Seems like now they operate it like weekend services where they terminate at Wynyard instead: https://transportnsw.info/alerts/details#/ems-28104
Monday 12 to Thursday 15 February
  • Nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Wynyard.
  • From Wynyard, catch a City Circle train or the light rail to continue your journey.
  • Trains run between Berowra and Hornsby, some to a changed timetable.
  • T1 Western and T9 Northern Line trains start and end at Central, platforms 1-12.
Bus routes
21T1 Chatswood, then all stations to Wynyard and return
22T1 Chatswood, all stations to St Leonards, North Sydney, Wynyard and return
24T1 Hornsby, then all stations to Chatswood, Wynyard and return
