Reference Material- Demograhics and population growth

Post by Admet75 »

I know many of you are probably wondering why the hell have I put this for you to read.

However, the reports that have provided a PDF link for everyone shows where the land supply will be available in the short, medium and long term both employment land and residential land. The reason also is that it tees up with public transport provision.

See reports:

https://plan.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pd ... nfield.pdf

https://plan.sa.gov.au/__data/assets/pd ... Infill.pdf

As we know public transport provison does not occur earlier enough in housing estates but there are times it has earlier. For example Blakes Crossing the bus route was re-routed into the main part of Blakes Crossing and it could not have been re-routed into the back streets that were actually Cul-De Sacs.

Also lets look at the 1980s-1990s development of Golden Grove, north of Golden Grove Village the roads were not conducive for rigid or articulated buses and that was because how the developer (Delfin) made a concentrated effort to have more dead-end streets there than south of Golden Grove Village. I think we can think of many more in Adelaide but that one springs to mind. By the way Golden Grove was touted as having everything that you didn't have to go to TTP or even the city for. Residents who lived there from the 1980s to late 1990s would tell you they still had to go to Modbury to pay there car rego etc, big stores like Big W didn't come to Golden Grove till much later on hence GG Residents needed to drive or catch a bus to TTP.
However, one thing that has been noted that north of Golden Grove residents were forced to purchase their second or third car because public transport provision was quite poor- who remembers the SL services which TA tried in attempt to win back commuters only to force commuters who had previously a one ride journey (ie. from Greenwith) to change at Golden Grove Interchange which was poorly designed and had inadequate shelter. Feeder buses for the Golden Grove's were the MAN 10 metre rigid and and L'Dace Toyota Minibuses.

Population data is also crucial in working out where population growth will be. We all know that Mount Barker, Munno Para West, Seaford are the growth areas but the question is are there really any others in the western and eastern suburbs?

My hope is that those people who read these reports actually put meaningful route extensions or new services but we have to remember the To Pay Peter to rob Paul principle. The problem is that trying to encourage people to use public transport earlier on in a housing estate is to provide PT earlier on is the best thing but not later on when they will use cars.

Noting also that many housing estates the interchanges or even railway stations are a fair way from the town centre- Mawson Lakes, Seaford and others come to mind any other can you think of. Someone said Sheidow and Trott Parks and Hallett Cove to me the other day is another two suburbs.

These are my thoughts what do you think?
