Temporary Bus Route Timetables

Post by Fleet Lists »

Fleet Lists wrote: Fri Jan 06, 2023 10:48 am Thanks - yes I agree - the conversion of the rail contracts to be included in the regional contracts, is happening very slowly - have only seen them in Newcastle and some operated by Hillsbus.
It might be worth recording any others which have been seen.
From today's advice of rail replacement services for the coming week, I had a look at19 such timetables:
Of those two 20T4 and 21T4 showed as being operated by Transdev John Holland and all trips showed as wheelchair accessible and the timetable cover pages showed "Temporary buses Opal card accepted" https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 230112.pdf of which the first two characters "30" is the code for Transdev John Holland.

The other 17 timetables all showed as being operated by "Train bus replacement operators" and the timetable code is "01" which is used for such timetables and the timetable cover page shows "Temporary buses Opal card not accepted"
Of these 17 only one showed any trips as being wheelchair accessible - route 6SH with Fridays all trips in both directions and on Saturday and Sunday all trips from Moss Vale but none in the other. Route 7SH which is a similar route operating on Friday only does not show any.
All such timetables still contain the comment:" Look for the (wheelchair) symbol in this timetable. Some older buses may not have all the
features you need. There will be more accessible services as older buses are replaced."

So obviously the conversion to have these timetables included in the regional contracts has not advanced very much and wheelchair information in other rail replacement timetables does not appear reliable.

I have created a separate thread for this to keep updated to show if any progress is being made.

It will be interesting to see what the timetables for Hunter routes 10HU and 15HU the next weekend will show.
I was a bit premature with this as they are not due until 19th January which will be included next week Transport NSW advice but the timetables are already present. Both show as being operated by Hunter Valley Buses with code 46 and Opal card shows as acceptable. All trips (10HU only only and 15HU 2 trips) show as wheelchair accessible.
So as I thought some if not all Hunter Valley trips have been converted.

During the last major Hunter line trackwork shutdown, Both Singleton & Thornton Depot were using low entry accessible buses, although Singleton still used one or two of their high-floor OH1830L Mercedes for the longer distant routes to Muswellbrook & Dungog.

Thornton doesn't tend to use High-floors anymore on rail replacement, one or two may sneak out but unlike two years ago, the majority of them are now accessible.

This week I did not wait for the weekly advice to arrive, but worked through all alerts for the next week starting tomorrow, during the last few days. and found 32 rail replacement routes scheduled for operation which included the previously mentioned routes 10HU and 15HU.

Also found four Blue Mountain routes which are not shown in the relevant alert, currently operating to replace trains between Katoomba and Springwood, due to the goods train derailment. All scheduled to operate from 6th to 20th January. All found through the trip finder - there could be others.
17BM Bathurst, Lithgow, Mt Victoria, Katoomba, Springwood, Penrith then Blacktown and return
40BM Katoomba, then all stations to Springwood and return
37BM Lithgow, then Katoomba, Springwood
91BM Katoomba then Springwood and return

Also looked at 5 more Southern Highlands timetables from last week which I had missed.

Except for routes 10HU and 15HU, all showed Opal cards not acceptable and no operator name shown. Rarely any wheelchair services shown.

Re: Temporary Bus Route Timetables.

29 timetables for upcoming train, metro and ferry replacement routes were looked at during the past week.
Of these 2 Metro and 1 Ferry replacement timetables all showed as being operated by Hillsbus with Opal enabled.
Of the 26 train replacement timetables, none did.
Timetables for routes 10T3 and 12T3 came up 3 times each. Two for each appeared OK but ones for 6/2/23 do not match any outage in the list of rail replacements or any alert so far. Finish date for 10T3 is 9/2/23 which appears reasonable (if it is to operate) but for 12T3 is 9/3/23 which appears to be an error.
Not replacement routes but the Olympic Park routes are also regarded as temporary routes – hence I am including them here.
So far timetables are listed for routes 5a Hillsbus, 5b Hillsbus, 7 Punchbowl and 8 Hillsbus for Thursday 2/2/2023 Red Hot Chili Peppers with Post Malonet concert. These timetables do show operators and Opal acceptable although fares are included in the admission ticket prices.
To cover this, I am renaming this thread “Temporary Bus Route Timetables”

14 timetables for upcoming train replacement routes were looked at during the past week. None had operator names or Opal enabled.
No timetables yet for Hunter Valley routes 10HU and 15HU for 2/2/2023 – these would normally show Hunter Valley Buses as operator and Opal enables. Timetables are available on Tripview
Also no timetables yet for Central Coast/Newcastle routes 1CN, 2CN, 4CN and 20CN for 30/1/2023 to 31//1/2023 but timetables are available for these routes a week later 5/2/2023
Finishing date for route 12T3 reported last week was corrected.
Olympic Park routes for 2/2/2023 - route 6 from Sutherland shown as being Operated by Transdev, Still awaiting timetables for routes 1a. 1b. 2 and 4.

10 timetables for upcoming train replacement routes were looked at during the past week. None had operator names or Opal enables.
The timetables for Central Coast/Newcastle routes 1CN, 2CN, 4CN and 50CN for 30/1/2023 to 31/1/2023 finally arrived on 30/1/2023 – the first day of operation.
As at last Wednesday there were no less than 43 routes which had been advised mainly through alerts, which were still awaiting timetables. This included the four Olympic Park routes 1a, 1b, 2 and 4 which operated on 2/2/2023 – link pages only for routes 1a, 1b, and 2 and nothing for route 4 – all available on Tripview. It also included Hunter Valley routes 10HU and 15HU for 2/2/2023 – these would normally show Hunter Valley Buses as operator and Opal enables. Timetables were available on Tripview
4 of these have since been seen. 7 others have either expired or will expire by tomorrow including 10HU and 15HU mentioned earlier, Olympic Park routes 1A, 1B 2 and 4 for 2/2/2023 (route 4 did not even have a link page) and route 420S which expires tomorrow. A further 19 will expire next weekend and should be present by now as their alerts were present in yesterday’s advice of alerts. And 13 routes are already mentioned in alerts for the week starting Monday 13/2/2023. – none timetables

Re: Temporary Bus Route Timetables

32 timetables for upcoming train replacement routes were looked at during the past week. Two of these showed Transdev John Holland as operator but the rest did not show the operator names or Opal enables.
Alerts 12737 and 12739 covered T2 alerts for consecutive days 10/2 and 11/2 but the timetables for three of the routes covered both days hence reducing the number of outstanding timetables mentioned in my report last week but of the two T1 replacement routes shown in the second alert the timetable for 64T1 was shown a day before the T2 ones but no timetable has been sighted for 63T1.
On 6th to 9th February – timetables finally arrived on Monday 6th February for routes 34T4 and 34T5 – the first day of operation which is a bit late.
9 Hunter Valley timetables for 7/2/2023 for 9/2/2023 never appeared on Transport for NSW. Link pages were present for all routes with 7 showing that Opal was enabled with the other two showing it as not enabled. The routes with Opal enabled were present in Tripview.
The coming weeks are much better as can be seen that 32 timetables were reviewed with timetables already present for the next two weeks up to Sunday 26 February except for alert 13265 on that Sunday with its timetables for routes 19T3 and 12T3 to come, For alert 12739 for this weekend, four timetables are present but not for route 63T1. For alert 13003 for 18th February 5 timetables are present but not for route 62T8.
Ferry replacement route 60 F3 mentioned previously.
Transport for NSW timetable shows the operator as Hillsbus and prior to last Monday showed in Tripview with the yellow Hillsbus colour. Then on Monday and Tuesday Tripvidew duplicated all trips, one with yellow and one with blue (appears to be Busways) and since then al trips are shown with blue only and real time is not available. Both Tripvew and AnyTrip show the route as unknown but that appears to have been fixed today.
It would appear that Busways has taken over the route from Hillsbus but this is causing some software problems.

CDC NSW is still operating 60F3, but Busways may have done regular tidal Rydalmere to Parramatta replacement as supplements perhaps?
I also spotted a Transit Systems bus in Parramatta Interchange last week with 60F3 on the desto which confused me, but could just be it was a desto code used out of service.

That certainly seems a valid reason. I guess the normal tidal replacement service also operates as 60F3. But there should not be any need to run that during this closure. Another case where the software gets confused when two operators summit timetables for the same route.

When STA was still around in R7, they had the contract for regular tidal replacement. This contract was issued directly by Sydney Ferries (Transdev). Buses running regular tidal replacement had no route number, nor were in any data set.

I believe the wharf replacement routes are contracted by TfNSW, as they are longer term. They also get a route number and are included in the data set.

There were a couple instances under STA when both would be operating, as Transdev hadn't cancelled the regular tidal replacements and STA didn't have the contract for that particular wharf replacement service, so the error wasn't picked until Transdev realised on their end.

13 timetables for upcoming train replacement routes were sighted during the past week.
A fifth timetable was missed last week ie alert 13261 for 25/2 had timetable present for route 50T1 but not 50T2 but this was subsequently added.
A further belated alert 13377 was noted for route 10T4. It had its related timetable for this route made available later last Saturday 11 February.
From 14/2/2023 for three days an emergency rail service operated between Waterfall and Thirroul on route 54SC. Despite the short notice, a timetable and trip finder were available by the time the service commenced.
During the past week there were 6 bus routes in alert 13013 for train route T8. Five timetables were available before the last weekend with “replacement bus route operators” – the sixth one for route 62T8became available on Wednesday this week showing Busways as operators. For a route between Mascot and the CBD it seemed strange to see Busways as the operator.
Routes 20T4 and 21T4 for Monday 27/2/2023 show Transdev John Holland as the operator.
Hunter Valley routes 10HU and 15HU show Hunter Valley Buses as operator
All other timetables reviewed showed replacement bus route operators.
Timetables have been sighted for al alerts for the past week and the upcoming week.
13 timetables covered by 4 alerts for the week starting 27/2/2023 are still to be sighted,
Ferry replacement route 60 F3 mentioned previously still showed the blue Busways colours despite being operated by Hillbus and still not being tracked by Tripview or Anytrip
Olympic Park routes are operating on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February. Timetables are so far available for Punchbowl route 7 and Hillsbus routes 5A, 5B and 8.
During the past week a temporary timetable was found for a route 698 Upper Wilsons Creek to Mullumbimby (Flood Recovery Shuttle which commenced on 16/4/2022. I doubt that this would still be operating.

There still seems to be a software problem with both types of contract now current.

Busways Region 7 have previously operated the T8 Airport Line, I think that it is a part of the contract. The route 60T8 has been outsourced to Transit Systems Region 6.

Transit Systems Region 6 will be operating some route 4 trips on the 24th & 25th.

The upcoming event at Sydney Olympic Park will the the second major event where pdf timetables for routes 1A, 1B, 2, 4 & 6 will not be available.

17 timetables for upcoming train replacement routes were sighted during the past week.
Hunter Valley routes 1HU and 7HU show Hunter Valley Buses as operator
All other rail replacement timetables reviewed showed replacement bus route operators.
Timetables have been sighted for all alerts for the past week and for the upcoming week.
Southern Highlands alert 13583 dated 4/3/2023 which includes routes 6SH and 9SH has disappeared but timetables are now present for these routes covering the period 15 April to 30 September which seems strange future dates and not yet covered by an alert.
South Coast alert 13900 for 6/3/2023 which includes routes 5SC and 6SC has timetables for these routes but both show the finishing date as 8 September- again a strange finishing date,
11 timetables covered by 8 alerts for the week starting 6/3/2023 are still to be sighted – some routes covered by multiple alerts.
Ferry replacement route 60 F3 mentioned previously still showed the blue Busways colours despite being operated by Hillbus and still not being tracked by Tripview or Anytrip
Olympic Park routes are operating on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 February. Timetables are now available for all routes with the timetable for Forest Coach Lines route1B appearing in TfNSW timetables, Tripview and Anytrip on the first day of operation 24/2/2023.
The Olympic Park routes are again scheduled for 3rd and 4th March. The timetables for routes 4, 5a, 5b and 7 are already listed as well the timetables for today for these routes.

I would say Saturday trackwork for the ARTC upgrade happening there following on from last year’s trackworks.

Weekly Temporary Bus Route Timetable report – Saturday 4 March 2023
25 timetables for upcoming train replacement routes were sighted during the past week.
4 Hunter Valley timetables show Hunter Valley Buses as operator
All other rail replacement timetables reviewed showed replacement bus route operators.
Timetables have been sighted for all alerts for the past week while for the upcoming week timetables for routes 20T4, 23T$, 25T4 and 40T7 have not yet been sighted. The first two have link pages which show the timetables as “not available”. All four were present in yesterday’s Transport for NSW trackwork advice.
Southern Highlands alert 13583 dated 4/3/2023 which includes routes 6SH and 9SH has disappeared but timetables are now present for these routes covering the period 15 April to 30 September which seems strange future dates and not yet covered by an alert. Unchanged from last week.
South Coast alert 13900 for 6/3/2023 which includes routes 5SC and 6SC has timetables for these routes but both show the finishing date as 8 September- again a strange finishing date. Unchanged from last week.,
23 timetables covered by 7 alerts for the week starting 13/3/2023 are still to be sighted.
One timetable has already been sighted for 27 March for route 33T4 but no alert so far..
Ferry replacement route 60 F3 mentioned previously still showed the blue Busways colours despite being operated by Hillbus and still not being tracked by Tripview or Anytrip. Someone has reported that trackings have been sighted but I have not any luck with that.
The Olympic Park route timetables for 3rd and 4th March in the past week were all available by last Wednesday.

Appears tracking for the 60F3 is intermittent then with it cutting off every once in a while.
