On Friday 17 March I saw 3402 in Salisbury heading towards Edinburgh
Next station is Victoria Square. Change here for all trains.

A couple of days late,

I was in the city Friday afternoon for the Motorsport Festival street party, while I was waiting for the cars to arrive around 5.40 I noticed a bus (1273) stopped just past the start of the tunnel access road, wandered down to have a look and the tunnel closed sign was on and ahead of 1273 was from memory 1188 parked pretty much right up at the boom gate. Couldn't really get too much closer than the traffic lights as the Rymill Park was still all closed off from the fringe, but from where I was standing it looked like 1188 had 142 on the back destination, (I took a picture from where i was but it wasn't super clear). Had a quick look on Any Trip 1273 was showing up as 30 min late on a 530, 1188 however wasn't showing up.

I didn't notice 1188 move but looked at noticed it wasn't there and then saw 1273 move off sometime after and not long after that services that had been diverting along Bartels Rd resumed through the tunnel soon after.
Just wondered if anyone knew what happened?

1970 bus observed today with a new validator accepting tap and go. This however removes the option of using a paper (magnetic) ticket. I guess magnetic tickets are soon to be a thing of the past.

DIT released a video on YouTube today detailing the changes that will take place by mid-2023. metroTickets will no longer be accepted on buses from mid-2023 (1st July) after the new validators fully roll out.

Anyone have any idea when the Newton NL202s are planned to be phased out?

I'd imagine they won't bother installing the new validators in them and will retire them in June.

They can’t retire the NL202 buses (Newton and Morphettville) until replacements arrive and I’ve heard waiting for parts has been holding up deliveries of new BusTechs.
Any new style validators installed in the NL202 buses can be easily removed and installed in the new BusTechs, as has been done with other replacements.

Will this make any difference to the people who are currently not paying? Regardless of having a Metrocard or not.
Caught a 254 from Port Adelaide on Sunday afternoon, by the time it reached Arndale there were probably 30 people on it, about 25 of them just walked straight on and sat down, didn't even spin the "I recharged it online" story, not all of them were kids either.

I'd guess not. In my experience in the UK at least there isn't a difference between not paying between contactless and a smartcard.

Besides, the new excuse will be "Sorry, don't have money in my bank account" or "don't have a debit card"

Rode on 1968 today, had the new validator installed along with an extra section of protective screen for the driver but the coin tray had been removed.

I had 1969 today and that also had a new protective screen and new validator installed. Was on 1950 the other day and it also had both. Getting their stage by stage. Shame is I don’t think it will eliminate many fare evaders but hope to be wrong.

I think it will reduce fare evasion, but only slightly. Tourists and other irregular users who at the moment don’t know where or how to buy a metroticket or metro card will be able to pay.

A good example is tourists heading to Hahndorf. Often, they are from larger cities where pay by card has been around for many years, and are shocked and surprised when they can’t buy a ticket on our bus. In Hahndorf, the only metroticket retailer is the IGA, which isn’t always open, and has been known to sell out of tickets too.

The only thing that will actually reduce routine fare evasion by certain members of the public is the government increasing the number of security and ticket inspectors on buses. Despite all their big talk about public transport, nothing seems to have changed between governments (unsurprisingly).

This. Enforcement is poor, to non-existent on buses (especially) in the three Australian cities I have some familiarity with.

Properly managing fare evaders, fining them, or even ejecting them from the service, would also drastically reduce the instances of anti-social behaviour on buses. It's almost always fare evaders who instigate such lousy, disrespectful and disruptive incidents (either towards the bus, drivers and/or the passengers).

Mainly seems to be removing trips from the timetable that haven’t been run anyway. I do notice 2 new round 835 trips between Mt Barker and Lobethal in the middle of the day though.

By the looks of it 461 and 462 has been scrapped

461 and 462 not scrapped, still running but now on a separate timetable rather than being included on the 451/452 timetable as they were previously. Only trouble is clicking on 461 or 462 future timetables on the AdMet website brings up the new 451/452 timetable. A glitch that needs to be fixed.

Presumably all the missed trips that have been removed from the timetables are intended to be reintroduced when staffing levels permit.

The biggest “change,” I can spot is that at night now O-Bahn services leave At a 10 min headway on the hour rather then at 5 past the hour by moving them forward by 5 mins. Meaning the last service now leave TTP on weekdays at 2350 rather then 2355. The last service back to TTP remains at 0022.

Amongst other things H30 has also finally had time cut off it. There’s actually some decent, albeit minor, timing changes in the routes I’m familiar with.
