Cool to hear the Route 39 is enjoying heightened popularity. I wonder if this is just the result of the substantial service consolidation in the area, or if the route is actually seeing growth (whereas the nearby 38 seemingly isn't)?

Am guessing the changes to the 42 bring forward peak service, and will see the 30min frequency towards Perth push a bit further into the morning. A tweak, or a sign of more substantial improvements being imminent?

For both Routes 39 and 42 there has been a significant increase over the past decade in the development of higher density housing along their respective passenger catchment areas.

In additional of the changes above, there's still more during this February. Also the route 96 have a separate bus departure stand in UWA South, which is not mentioned in the Services Updates section. Some of the 12 March changes also updated from the School services changes page.

Also there's another time changes for routes 201 and 202, most of the 201 trips will departs for 1 minutes later from Curtin University Bus Station, and for 202 they have some minor time changes, and the changes are listed as below along the other time/route changes on the same set listed from the previous post.

Can anyone explain why Timetable 87, which covers the Morrison Road common section composite timetable of Routes 313, 314, 315, 323, 324, 325 & 327 to and from Midland, is not listed on Transperth's website? Surely this deserves the same treatment as Timetables 42 and 43 which covers Routes 81 to 85 (Timetable 42) and the common Wembley section (Timetable 43)?

I've had to explicitly put it into my browser to get it. I fail to see the purpose of composite timetables (i.e. Bus Timetable 6 and Bus Timetable 42. Online information systems such as the mobile app makes this sort of thing redundant.

They do, but at the same time, they don't.

The various apps show departures, and produce a map for each route, where you have to figure out which stops are serviced, and if the route leaves the corridor early, whereas the composites give a much clearer picture of what services are available along a common corridor. However, I'd definitely concede the preference towards installing totem poles with detailed timetable and route information on them would go a long way towards making composite timetables redundant; the only place this isn't true is Perth Busport, where it would be unreasonable (but not impossible) for the departure boards to show alternative services.

Composite timetables are great, especially for people living on multi-route corridors that haven't been converted to 900-series routes.

They sell frequency to passengers so better present the service than requiring people to look at multiple lists to find when the next bus is.

Apps and journey planners are good for planning specific trips but a timetable gives a fuller impression of the frequent service available, which, if good enough, can encourage other trips at other times. And when service isn't frequent they can educate people on alternative routes that might be suitable, especially if coming home. Eg if related routes are each only hourly then catching an alternative and then a longer walk home may be overall quicker.

From late January 2024, Transperth will operate a small number of additional school days only trips on the Route 253 bus service between Jarrahdale, Mundijong, Byford and Armadale Station.

The new services will provide for improved travel opportunities to Court Grammar School and Byford Secondary College as well as provide a new travel option for students attending Salvado Catholic College and improved commuter access into Armadale.

In early 2024 new bus stops will be installed on Chestnut Road, King Jarrah Circle, Marginata Parade and Jarrahdale Road in Jarrahdale, in addition to those stops already present along the route.

Further information regarding these changes will be provided to the community in Term 4 2023.

Two unannounced changes noted;

The 512 will have some trips changed to better reflect running times (see here for the new timetable).

And the Circleroute will have some changes due to Bayswater Station - a route change, and a timing point change (again, see here).

Cheers!

Interesting. Green CAT drops from every 8 mins to every 10 mins, and Red CAT drops from every 5 mins to every 7 mins but operating hours are increased across all CAT routes throughout the week with earlier morning and later evening services.

This would seem to be an easy way of saying "some or all trips will be short-workings", although not very helpful when the Blue CAT doesn't run between Elizabeth Quay and Kings Park 7pm on Friday & Saturday nights.

The only other times a substantial number of short trips operate is typically in the peak, in which case, you aren't stranded, you just have to wait a bit longer for the next service. For that scenario, a simple blurb like the one in the timetable is more than sufficient.

Still cannot believe that the Route 512 short journey has not been extended to terminate in Orsino Boulevard, North Coogee. It seems pointless to continue with the Beale Park terminus. Also when driving along Ocean Road coming off Cockburn Road, some extra bus stops should be added as soon as the residential area start. There are some bus-stops in Ocean Road closer to Hamilton Road, which is a substantial distance away.

Considering 935 now operates out of King's Park until midnight Fridays and Saturdays, it is rather unnecessary for the Blue CAT to play the full route after hours.

I can't get it to show any of the 2s (also tried 002), so will take your word for it. In the past three to four years, trips seem to have been converted from 004s into slightly more useful 002s, or withdrawn completely. Prodding around some more, I notice the 003s seem to have vanished at some point too.

It's nice to see the CATs are getting some attention to make a more consistent service level throughout the week, although I wonder if this change is cost neutral, or if some extra money has been 'found' to fund improvements? The Purple CAT must be performing quite well (or is hoped to perform well), judging by the frequency being tripled between the hours of 2000 and 2335; although I'd be very interested to see what effect this free service is having on the regular services operating in the vicinity, that is, the 24, 96, 97, 950, 998, 999.

Also mentioned here is the closure of Bayswater station until September which details the workarounds until it's complete. At least the train will be back in service having experienced the congestion rail replacement buses have had to negotiate. I'm sure the travelling public will be glad to see their return.

Free public transport for SmartRider holders on the first Sunday of each month
Funded by the McGowan Government through the 2023-24 State Budget
Fare Free Sunday Sessions to boost public transport patronage, help ease cost of living and support local hospitality and entertainment businesses
Western Australians will soon have another reason to catch public transport, with access to free all-day travel on the first Sunday of each month as part of the plan to attract more people to public transport and help ease cost of living pressures.

The McGowan Government's 'Fare Free Sunday Sessions' initiative, which will begin on 4 June to coincide with the WA Day long weekend, aims to encourage more people to use public transport on weekends, supporting local hospitality and entertainment businesses.

Based on public transport patronage figures over the past year, this equates to about 400,000 free trips across the network each year, with the hope of boosting that figure over the duration of the trial and beyond.

The free travel will apply to people using SmartRider cards, so the number of rides can be tracked and the two-year policy assessed.

It can also be accessed by passengers in Bunbury and Karratha where TransRegional Sunday bus services operate.

SmartRiders are available at Transperth InfoCentres and selected retail outlets, and the Public Transport Authority will run a campaign in coming months to rollout more SmartRiders.

The initiative will complement the Government's existing two-zone cap scheme, which has saved regular public transport users in the outer suburbs thousands of dollars in the past year.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"Free public transport on Sundays will help to encourage more Western Australians to get out and about on the weekend, supporting local businesses while boosting use of our trains and buses.

"The free offer will allow more families to experience more parts of Perth, without the hassle or costs of parking.

"As more of METRONET is built, delivering a once-in-a-generation expansion to Perth's public transport network, this new free travel offer will entice more people to experience our world-class network."

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"In recent months, we've seen a really strong bounce back in patronage after the impacts of COVID, and this initiative will encourage more people to use public transport on weekends, whether it be to watch sport, catch a movie or dine out with family and friends.

"This in turn will help support the local entertainment and hospitality industry to rebuild after what has been a difficult three years.

"The aim is to get people used to the idea of catching public transport on weekends, taking the hassle out of driving and allowing them to relax and enjoy themselves while out socialising.

"I am confident that by getting more people to use public transport on weekends, it will also encourage more regular public transport usage during the week."
