Three Endeavour Sets in the Hunter Valley?? I thought it’s normally only 2 sets? According to AnyTrip N3, N8 and N11 are all operating Services this morning. N3 operating to Telarah, N8 operating the first outbound Dungog Service and N11 operating the first outbound Scone Service

Possibly an extra set transferred to strengthen services for the Newcastle 500.

Interestingly nothing mentioned on the Transport NSW page for Newcastle 500 for extra train services.

https://transportnsw.info/events/2023/0 ... castle-500
Extra light rail services, ferry services and bus services will run throughout the weekend.
I'm not doubting you & the regional & Intercity line is what it is but strange of them to leave trains out when they've mentioned it in previous years supercars events I'm sure.

Hunter line could do with a booster with the Supercars with more services as the weekend hourly service between Telarah & Newcastle Interchange (And return) is a bit of a slap in the face unless they've boosted services and just not bothered to say so.

Also says Dungog and Scone services will be replaced by coaches to allow a higher frequency service to operate between Maitland and Newcastle.

Entire Sydney Trains network appears to have ground to a halt due to comms system failure. Third major disruption I have been caught up in as many days. First order of business for the next government might be to clean the dead wood out of TfNSW again.

They can't scramble buses at this time because of school duties that will change in about half hour from now

Entire network from Newcastle to Lithgow and Wollongong is out. Will be a lot of extremely peeved off people tonight. Someone senior should have their head handed to them over this one. Bet they try and blame the heat.

One of the outcomes of having all trains controlled from a single central bunker in the back-blocks of Alexandria.

The Metro is still running; one the advantages of not having it integrated into the suburban network.

Except that there's a wide disparity between reliability of both systems. Last time I saw figures, the metro is about 99% reliable, the suburban system on the monthly statistics ranges between about 80 and 90% reliability.

Metro not running is one line out.
Today it seems we have 8 lines out simultaneously.

So it should, it's nearly brand new. Although not immune from meltdowns. Commuters trapped for over two hours as power outtage shuts down doors and air conditioning on Sydney Metro line.(Sky News)

But getting back on topic, reports from two agencies, lest anybody declare it a leftie pile in:

Peak hour chaos as communication issue completely stops Sydney’s train network (News.com.au)

Entire network at standstill following communications issue (Sydney Morning Herald)

It's a shame that they turn everything into politics without any real action being done to fix the issue.

Because metro not running is the only line. It's a pretty spurious argument comparing that one paltry line with the multiple times larger and more complex Sydney Trains' network. The problem appears to be with a breakdown in the digital communications network and not with the rail network signalling itself.

Seems this problem has happened before in the Netherlands. DTRS is based off of GSM-R from what I can gather in the UGL article.

(https://www.ugllimited.com/en/case-stud ... io-systems)
(https://www.railjournal.com/passenger/m ... h-network/)

I can’t seem to find the report that was supposedly underway however. If anyone can, that would be appreciated though it will likely be in Dutch.

At Epping they have a new slim PIDS. It shows the CCN as a line instead of just displaying the orange T symbol like the regular PIDS do.

Heard a report that the cause of the radio outage is thought to be a software update put in place on Tuesday night. They had to switch to a redundant/backup controller unit which had an older version installed.

Reported OHW down near Panania this afternoon.
Allow plenty of extra travel time between Revesby and Glenfield due to urgent overhead wiring repairs at Panania. Trains services on the T8 between the City and Revesby will still run and may be delayed. We are arranging replacement buses between Revesby and Glenfield but at this stage there is no forecast when buses will arrive on site. Delay travel if possible or consider using other transport. If you are travelling from the City to stations between Glenfield and Campbelltown, your service will run via Liverpool on the T2 Inner West and Leppington Line.

Train in question was A73.
Source - my friend who was on that train in question [shared a photo of the wire hanging outside the window from the carriage he was in] - took just under 2 hours to get the passengers off the train after securing the area.

Sydney Trains network, the gift that keeps on giving. Signal failure has resulted in major delays around Central. No mention on its Twitter feed per usual, don’t know why they bother having.
