Re: Bus Observations 2023
Busways 1685 operating from Glendenning in Transport Nsw Livery transferred from Ryde with Legals updated on school bus route around Shalvey.
Edit 1661 noted in Transport Nsw Livery on 745 a route shared between Glendenning and Mulgrave formerly at Ryde depot. Unable to identify legals.
Edit Edit 1675 appears to be here also noted returning from Blacktown in Sta 2 livery
1675 isn't in Sta 2 unsure of third bus.
Of note not seen Any Volvo Volgrens ex Westbus today at all have they transferred out? Normally I see a few around

Re: Bus Observations 2023
My assumption is the tracking would be based on the onboard ticketing equipment. Depending on how these interface with TfNSW's backend, I expect it may be to do with how that works (down to login credentials, or who which buses belong to?), and any associated depot infrastructure that has been temporarily rendered inoperative while CDC's IT systems are setup.

Isn’t 2517 the current incarnation of Ryde’s favourite bus .. Daisy?

...and what’s funny is that the fleet number on the roof is not the vehicles actual current fleet number, with this and several others having been renumbered into the 3800 series.

Re: Bus Observations 2023
What's the reason some drivers in R9 (maybe elsewhere too?) cover up the front Opal reader with masks or vests?
If they are worried about Covid, maybe they should wear the masks.
I've thought it might have been the reader was faulty, but today when I boarded the reader was covered; but the driver got relieved, picked up the vest and the reader worked fine with the new driver.

Guess what, another bud accident this time Port Macquarie. That’ll bring the tally in almost 2 weeks to Busways: 2 and CDC: 2superbossgc wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 4:46 pm yet more crash for 2517 at west rydes, hits power poles.

Possibly to keep people moving in the bus. People tend to be a bit quicker when there's a longer line behind themboronia wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 6:55 pm What's the reason some drivers in R9 (maybe elsewhere too?) cover up the front Opal reader with masks or vests?

I'm not sure how trying to avoid people touching on at the front speeds things up...
Perhaps the Opal readers are too slow to read cards?

Re: Bus Observations 2023
As I said, people tend to fart around less and be quicker when there's more people behind them.
What I find annoying is when the Opal readers are working when you get on the bus, but aren't when you get off, so you get charged full fare. Has happened to me several times on the 390X alone, has never happened to me outside R9.
Re: Bus Observations 2023
I have had similar problems in regions 6, 8 and 9, the Opal card system has become a shambles. I've had to apply for over $20 of adjustments already this month. As Kerry Packer once said, they don't spend it well enough that anybody should be donating extra.

Re: Bus Observations 2023
Say there's 100 people at a stop, and closing the front reader (does Sydney use 1 or 2?) is supposed to speed them up when you're already constrained to single-door loading? Can't see the logic in that, sorry.

You should watch the full unedited version of that 1991 enquiry. Well worth it.

Re: Bus Observations 2023
The second reader can slow things down, because people waste time trying to find it. Some on the left side, some on the right side, some on the front bulkhead facing forward. Some passengers are savvy enough to try to make two queues for boarding, then get in each other's way in the aisle.
Most drivers wait till all the boarding pax are seated, so there is little time advantage.

Re: Bus Observations 2023
When there's a few people at a stop, as is the case the vast majority of the time, and the front person decides to take their sweet time tapping on, they tend to figure out they need to hurry up when there's other passengers behind them. People are far more aware of when they're being an inconvenience to others when the others are trying to push past them to get a seat (as is what happens when the rear reader is used). There's plenty of logic behind it - observe people's behaviours when using the front vs the rear readers and you'll see exactly what I mean.
And by the way, I never claimed that the theory was true either. You'll note I used the word "possibly". I certainly don't see the logic in taking what I said and immediately applying it to a situation that almost never happens outside of peak hour on the 333.
