Modified timetables due to COVID impacts

More than 106 bus routes will reportedly be offline until at least the end of February due to a driver shortage. Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis spoke with Matthew Pantelis.

Tom Koutsantonis wants Torrens Transit to resolve the issue by end of February or Torrens Transit will be penalised

Is this an extension of the existing cuts or something more?

Partly extension i think

Bit late for penalising TT by the end of February. I would have thought the Minister would’ve penalised them a lot earlier for all the services that have been dropped.

Interesting...so sounds like TT have been getting their regular contractual payments even though they're running less services and paying less drivers due to the Covid service reductions?

About time some penalties started being dished out for this ongoing drama, the contractors might take more notice of it then.

It's no good banging the "COVID" and "staff shortage" drums anymore, people are sick to death of those excuses; it's time to start thinking about ways out of the mess. COVID changed work (and thus travel habits) - perhaps timetables need restructuring to reflect the new normal? That might cut back on peak requirements and help with staff shortages (or even an opportunity for some careful trials of the service consolidation sorely needed in Adelaide).
Over the years there has been a lot of negative publicity about bus safety, and/or bus drivers, and not all of it truthful. Might be time to work on that problem to encourage more (quality) applicants to fill vacancies.

Fully agree! I've noticed more people seem to be starting work earlier, and buses at 630/7am are often full. Buses ex the City from 330pm seem to be busy now and by 530/6pm buses seem much quieter than they were pre-pandemic. This increased spreading of the peak hours needs to be picked up in revised timetables and like you say, may lead to less overall peak demand for additional runs/drivers.

Surely the last thing thats needed is the CBD peak hour moving to 3-4pm just when the school peak is on. That will only make things worse.

A city like Adelaide would surely have a lot of dead wood in the network during the school and/or commuting peaks, that could be trimmed out to make up for growth elsewhere.
