Some people cannot drive due to their age or finances but the Trailerbus will allow them to easily get to and from the bus stop and take their bike or mobility scooter with them.

This is a good video on route 611 that I think would be ideal for a Trailerbus.

And the 607X https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNcEJ7uxxv4

In case a passenger wants to speak to the driver it would be possible via a speaker on the side of the bus and inside near the doors.

They would be recruiting b double drivers to drive these trailer buses otherwise service NSW will be overwhelmed with MR class licensed bus drivers wanting to upgrade to a HR class licence

Where you only need a bus authority and a HR to drive bendy buses you may have to upgrade to a HC (semi licence) because the Trailerbus would be over 9t loaded but I do not know about a bus authority because I know a few good semi drivers that would not get a bus authority.

6t+9t+20t=35t legal NSW axle weights.
5t+10t =15t so the Trailerbus with prime mover would have the capacity of 35t-15t =20t

The B double is an MC (multiple combination)

PS
There are many older HC drivers who would love to just drive without the risk of being assulted or being charged with assult where they give one warning over the PA to settle down or the police will be called to the next stop where they have the authority to deal with them.

Most places now want a MC driver and guys over 50 are not interested in upgrading and there would be many who hate the hassle of a semi with only driving a near new Trailerbus with a Mercedes prime mover.

A B double cement driver told me the company knew when and where you stopped and how hard you used the brakes and he could be called in the office if he braked suddenly.

Now I do not know how this was done maybe with the thing they check your brakes with in NSW for a rego check hooked up to a satellite so if all Trailerbuses were monitored to eliminate cowboys then a combination of safety stairs and steady braking would allow up to 20t capacity with people standing on the top deck with plenty to hang on to.

Went to check out Vivid last night and caught the Manly ferry and the number of big electric bikes there have replaced the old rusty ones that you have to pedal although some food deliverers in the Corso need to slow down and give a bigger gap.

Anyway the need for the Trailerbus is growing as a couple of bikes takes up the whole carriage end.

Also the rolling menu of the suburb where the train stops at stations would be excellent for on the side of a Trailerbus.

$25,000,000 spent on court cases for an army guy which is equal to 50 complete Trailerbuses with prime movers.

And I still have not heard of anyone building one so if it is not money what is it?

Apologies for saying 500 Trailerbuses when it should have been 50.

Assuming the prime mover is 5t and the Trailerbus 10t and knowing the legal axle weights are 6t+9t+20t then the capacity would be 20t so it all depends mainly if people are allowed to stand particularly on the top deck.

Looking at the Queensland double deck airport bus it appears it is legal there so more luggage can be left downstairs.

This is the letter I sent to the editor of SMH.

Because there are a growing number of electric bikes in Sydney I am surprised my double deck Trailerbus has not been built to go places that trains do not.

At 500,000 kilometers the prime mover can then be sold redeeming some money which you cannot do with a conventional bus.

As it doesn't need an axle weight exemption it is very gentle on the road with a 20t legal capacity.

Now all they need is a Trailerbus to take them across town or interstate and they will be laughing with the subsidy.

It's a great way to keep the hoi polloi at arms length from the driver and leave him or her in peace and let them drive. Humans are like any volatile load, best kept contained!

Ha ha, I agree there is enough to do concentrating on driving without crowd control.

If anyone is misbehaving on the cameras the police can deal with them at the next stop.

The trailer bus idea is good but the zero emission crowd won’t get on board until battery electric prime movers become widely available

Australia has a maximum width of 2.5 m where most of the world has 2.55 m and Volvo wants us to make wider roads for their electric trucks but is hitting resistance because we have such great distances.

Neither batteries or hydrogen are as efficient as using electricity directly though.

The only thing I could find on why they don’t like people standing on the top deck is they worry it would roll over with the extra weight but with a triaxle and stability control I see no problem as it has safety stairs.

With all the rail replacement to be started perhaps standing will be allowed top and bottom on Trailerbuses so the full legal 20 ton capacity can be used.

If so they may become a cheap competition to trains in the future even halving the fare interstate.
