Victorian Route and Timetable Changes 2023

Post by PaxInfo »

Announced today was that the long-anticipated upgrades to Route 505 will commence in early 2023.

https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/addition ... -melbourne

Mention of a 12 month trial period which isn't normally the case.

There will be peak and interpeak services added. 'More than 10 new services' per weekday will be added.

Unexpected changes to 309! A few rambling thoughts:

Reminds me of the old peak hour 308 before DART (pre-2010) that went via Thompsons Rd, Manningham Rd and High St into Lynnwood Pde and King St (319 interpeak via Doncaster Park+Ride)

Not sure there is much to be saved by cutting the Donvale tail off given trips just go back to Doncaster depot. Results in loss of City bus coverage in parts of East Doncaster (273 on Springvale Rd has limited span)

Some savings however seem reinvested in a new after 6pm trip that will be useful to some

Doncaster Park+Ride passengers also lose their Queen St bus in the mornings (limited 303 trips in the afternoon) - might be an idea just to streamline all the Doncaster freeway runs to start from Lonsdale & King Sts (350 can remain from Queen St though as a sister of 250)

Kind Regards

Craig :)

The change to the terminal arrangements at Southern Cross for routes 235 & 237 should have been made years ago. It has always been a pain for buses having to navigate traffic congestion from the Queen VIc Market down Queen & Collins Streets to the station. Most of the usage originates from there anyway.

26 November 2023 will be when the new Yarra Valley bus network will start. Its centrepiece will be a simpler and more frequent 685 bus to Healesville Sanctuary/Badger Creek. With a 40 min Mon-Sat & 60 min Sunday service the big multi-hour gaps and complexities will be gone.

New 684 & 685 timetables now on PTV website. 684 timetables are geared to Eildon/Alexandra people going to Melbourne for a day. Melbourne people must stay overnight as no day trip option is available. 685 has many more trips added but still an earlyish Sunday finish.

Starting Dec 17 2023 will be a new timetable for the 538. The route will be realigned to run straight down Camp Rd instead of Graham St.

The dreaded 1pm Saturday finish will be extended to a finish of approx 5:30pm. Frequency will remain at every 40 min.

At this point, it would be better to scrap the 538 and use it's resources elsewhere.

Without travelling via the Southern part of Broadmeadows (Graham Street), 65% of the journey, it overlaps the 902 Smart Bus.

Plus, still no Sunday service.

It would be better to do either one of the following three.

1) Extend 540 from Upfield down to Somerset Estate, then continue through and terminate at Campbellfield K-Mart.
2) Pour the resources from a scrapped 538 into making 531 (Upfield to North Coburg via Somerset Estate) a 7 day a week 40 minute service.
3) Extend (after minor re-routing) 558 (Reservior to North West Reservior) to Upfield, via Campbellfield K-Mart and Somerset Estate.
