Buses travelling down Kintore Avenue, Adelaide to and from Greenacres in the 1980s

Post by mattdelaney »

I'm looking for information about any buses that transited Kintore Avenue, Adelaide during the 1980s to or from Greenacres, that is the bus route(s) didn't begin or terminate on Kintore Avenue but travelled down it either to or from Greenacres (the terminus was almost certainly beyond Greenacres). These buses could have been either state-government or privately run. Any help would be appreciated.

From the April 1981 route map:

Buses in Kintore Avenue were: 309, 310, 311, 320, 321, 322 and 520.

Of these, only the 520 City to Hillcrest Hospital passed through Greenacres.

From the September 1982 route map:

Buses in Kintore Avenue were: 307. 308, 309, 310, 311, 320, 321, 322 and 520.

Of these, only the 520 City to Hillcrest Hospital passed through Greenacres.

From the April 1985 route map:

Buses in Kintore Avenue were: 490 and 520.

Of these, only the 520 City to Hillcrest Hospital passed through Greenacres.

From the May 1988 route map:

Buses had ceased to use Kintore Avenue.

During this period, all these services were run by the State Transit Authority.

I hope that helps.

Its outside of the specified time period but prior to the 1974 STA takovers the 520 was privately run by Ex Servicemans Bus Service.

Thanks so much for the information you've provided; it's incredibly helpful! Having grown up in Adelaide buses travelling down Kintore Avenue were always a bit of a mystery to me as the buses I used to catch to Broadview (and later, travelling back to Adelaide after my parents had moved from my childhood home, to Oakden) always travelled down King William Street. Does anyone know why the above Kintore Avenue buses were discontinued by 1988?

520 was re-routed and combined with route 8 via Sixth Ave, St. Peters. Route 8 is now W90M/W91 City to Marden.

307, 308, 309, 310, 311 and 320, 321, 322 were through-linked with routes 620, 630, 640, 641. 307-311 travelled out of the City via Jeffcott St, Torrens Rd, South Rd OR Pym St, sometimes through Arndale and other times not, to Mansfield Park and Angle Park. Covered by parts of todays routes 230/232, 251 and 239. 320-322 travelled out of the City via Jeffcott St, Churchill Rd and Grand Junction Rd to Wingfield, Yatala (prison) and Valley View. Covered by parts of today's routes 235/238/239 and 361. 620, 630, 640, 641 routes to Marion and beyond, via either Towers Tce or Marion Rd. Covered by parts of today's routes 241, 245, 248, M44, 645, 646, W90.
