Does not reveal anything particularly new or interesting. I guess the proposed future research might prove more gritty.

Thanks Peter, and props to Robert Henderson for compiling the data. Shows how useful this can be in analysis long term.
Unfortunately it is clear from the 2020 data at least that they have mapped school services as well, not available to the general public.

When did the DGT (and private operators) start operating school specials?

Not sure about Sydney but in Newcastle at least the DGT was running School Specials by the mid-1950s out of Hamilton and Belmont, I know I've got an old document somewhere but can't find it just at the moment. The route numbers started at 700 and went up from there. One of the original batch still exists today on somewhat of the same corridor (although definitely adjusted over the years) which is the 704, now run by Keolis Downer Hunter - https://transportnsw.info/routes/detail ... /704/73704. The other early 700s no longer reflect the originals and have been recycled I believe.

I think that at least for private operators it would have been quite a bit later than that as the school services were not always considered part of the government controlled network.Campbelltown busboy wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 4:58 pmwouldn't the DMT of been in charge of the bus network back then so let's say sometime in the 70s

The DGT operated school services by at least the mid 1950s.
Was not involved with private operators back then, but could have started with the introduction of the SSTS in mid 1960s.
