Ever wondered what's inside a bell push?
Scania CB80 bellpush. Looks overly complex to me.

On more recent Volgrens (Optimus) I believe each one has a battery and operates wirelessly. Unnecessary over-engineering that serves no purpose, except to cause headaches for the poor driver when the batteries go flat. It seems a passing bus can also cause a phantom stop-request activation.
On the Customs I've driven, the buttons seem capable of actuating different chimes depending on their position in the bus (i.e. front seats, wheelchair request or rear seats). Not sure if those operate wirelessly or not.

What happened to the good old days when all they needed was two wires into the button?

Alternatively, "if it ain't broke, you haven't been fixing it for nearly long enough"!
Re: Ever wondered what's inside a bell push?
At least it's not the original CB80 stop buttons. Nearly every CB80 v1 I've been on has at least one of those broken or really difficult to push.

I recall reading that one style of button works off on "air". There is a small bulb behind the button, which gets compressed?

The V1 CB80s have a stop button which relies on the squeak the buttons makes as it’s compressed to set off the next stop chime. This means it has to be pushed confidently, and all the way. Not all people know this. Conversely, some people know and can set it off with jingling keys
