It might show me a fool by saying so ... But I'd never noticed (nor have the CATs ever really been a staple in my travels so that's probably why).Mr OC Benz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 8:41 pm The B7's and B8's delivered to Perth CAT's also have the additional set of longitudinal seats opposite the centre door which provides a bit more standing room and passenger flow near the doors.

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - 2022
The difference between 11.7 m and 12.5 m pretty much allows an extra row of seats (perhaps squeezing the pitch a little). So the Element at 12.5 m has 43 seats, thus losing one row bringing that down to 39 seats is pretty comparable.Mr OC Benz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 8:41 pm
Don't forget that these units are also shorter than the standard 12.3m Perth bus with 41 seats. These are apparently 11.7m long. From the photos and video I've seen, it appears there are 38 seats on this version which is actually two extra seats than the shorter length B8RLE's at Perth CATs. The B7's and B8's delivered to Perth CAT's also have the additional set of longitudinal seats opposite the centre door which provides a bit more standing room and passenger flow near the doors.
Studying the images more closely, I note that, while the Element has five emergency exits spread along the sides of the bus and at the rear window, the Perth bus only has two, right at the front sides of the bus. You'd think after the Brisbane fire (which took the front exits out of action, leaving no other emergency exits) there would be more awareness of this issue.
The other thing is that the Element makes a better fist of the seats at the front wheel arches, as shown in the photo below, having two mother-and-child seats on each arch (fore and aft), while the Perth bus has only two facing forward. Of course, lengthening to 12.5 m might be able to change this. These types of detail (including the issues at the back of the bus mentioned earlier) are, I think, all advantages of having an Australian-designed integral bus, whereas the BZL is designed in Sweden where they would be looking at what their range of export markets might want and striking some made-up compromise between those. The Volgren body can only fit around the chassis and drive system that Volvo provides, leaving little scope for fine adjustments for local conditions.
Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - 2022
Correct, the Volgren CR225/CR226 body for the 0405NH fleet and the Volgren CR228 body for the OC500LE CNG fleet all had back windows with exception of the Perth CAT OC's (CAT1 - CAT25) and the Rocko Dolphins. The back window was permantley removed starting with the Volgren CR228 'Future Bus' body for the OC500LE Diesels and early Volvo B7RLE fleet. The lack of a back window transitioned from the CR228 'Future Bus' body to the Volgren Optimus body.TP1462 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:49 pmIf I remember correctly the removal of the rear window has been a thing since the introduction of the diesel OC500s also the CATs & RATs don’t have a rear window eitherOff The Rails wrote:The rear window 'problem' would be part of the basic design of the Optimus rear, and something I don't think Volgren would custom make - unlike the Element which is custom built for their electric chassis.

Other emergency exits were installed on the CR228 'Future Bus' and Optimus bodys such as two roof escape hatches on the Diesel buses however I'm not too sure if this is possible with the BZL due to all the extra equipment mounted to the roof.

Re: PTA / Transperth & Private Observations - 2022
Noting the additional exterior shots, there is a third exit near the rear wheels on the offside. I think they could've done better than that, though.tonyp wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 11:19 pm Studying the images more closely, I note that, while the Element has five emergency exits spread along the sides of the bus and at the rear window, the Perth bus only has two, right at the front sides of the bus. No doubt due to the absence of emergency roof hatches.Merc1107 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 5:57 pmNoting the additional exterior shots, there is a third exit near the rear wheels on the offside. Of which I believe are 2 B7Rs similar to those used in public transit operators' fleets. On Perthbus.info, one is listed as having an Optimus body but the photos clearly show it to be a CR228 FutureBus.Zidanehartono wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 8:14 am With WA finally open to domestic and international travel, the Perth Airport interterminal shuttle service is running again as of today.

I saw 2880 on Tuesday on Joondy Red's before 4000 took over it - was still stickered up like it was on Cat's.

Unsure if posted, 2795 in service out from Malaga - seen on a 371 this morning.
I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.
