Further to Merc 1107 comment on STA rosters and particularly the scrap roster. In STA, the common practice was to remain on the Holiday Relief Roster (Scrap) and apply for a roster based around a particular time period, usually:
AMs, PMs, Mid-Days and Brokens. At many Depots, the lines of work were further classified into Early/Late AMs, Mid-Days etc plus Day-shifts signing on after the morning peak. Of course, there is an extensive set of rules that define the differnt types of shifts.

Applicants were appointed by Seniority and sometimes suitability to a particular roster, which you stayed on for as long as you desired. e.g. Some drivers have worked PM shifts for many years. Often when new timetables were introduced, a number of shifts would be reduced from a roster involving much robust discussion with the Union Reps.

In addition, in days past, there were many exclusive shifts that did the same runs every day, some frivers attracting a fan base. Part-time drivers usually do the same run each weekday.

I am not aware how much these practices have changed, particularly in Region 6 which has been operated the longest under private management.

An Explanation. A line of work consists of 19 shifts in a 28 day period. So a roster with 475 shifts would contain 25 lines of work excluding Sundays that stand alone.

The dark art of rostering and scheduling is a skill that takes a number of years to master. Many of the schedulers at major bus companies learnt their trade at State Transit. Most good roster clerks were excellent bush lawyers and had to know the Award and Local Arrangements well to survive!

Alas, many of the original pencil and rubber Schedulers have signed off from this World with a few of us living in memory lane.

Thank-you for taking the time to delve deeper and answer my questions about the "scrapheap", and more broadly as to the old STA way of doing things.

It was explained to me once by a respected veteran driver at M that any tweak you make to a given shift could cause knock on effects to the whole roster. It was like a game of chess.

It says route extension for 585 but there's no such route.

The route 565 extension for the one morning service is the 8:05 service from Fullers Rd near Bellevue St, Chatswood West.

I'm guessing that's to provide direct school travel from Chatswood West to Lindfield Learning Village and return.

It's interesting that puts a Region 12 bus into a Region 7 area.

Busways 5005 in service in nsw livery NOT electric livery on the 791 5002/3/4 still not spotted in service the front of the livery looks dreadful on the element.

Edit 5002 in service on the Sunday 776 in Electrics livery.

Sounds like the NSW government is pressing ahead with school reopening (for better or worse).
ONE AM 565 will start from West Chatswood, going up to Chatswood Stn, following normal route to terminate at Maquarie Uni (almost a full circle  )
ONE PM "565" will start from the new Lindfield Learning Village (wanker name for a school) & run to West Chatswood via Roseville Station
So the 259 & 256 are not being superseded, merely complimented by a once per day school service in the most archaic form possible. There are so many variations and short workings of the 565, 591 & other region 12 services it might as well be a country town.

Also, have just noticed the Transdev NSW website now just redirects to the Transdev Australia website with a lot of inspirational shareholder friendly BS, instead of maps, school timetables, etc. :(

Partially true - there is still a page linked to from the home page https://www.transdev.com.au/sydney-bus-timetables/ which provides very limited information including a link to the NSW Transport for NSW timetables homepage where you look for timetables but there does not appear to be a list of routes operated as they had previously. So the only timetables are the Transport for NSW ones as was discussed for Busways in another thread earlier this week.

From the desk top site you can zoom into the map to find a public route bus.

Also from the schools page you can zoom into the map to find a school bus or start typing the name of your school.

Just happened to find this on the Land Transport Guru (Singapore) website - https://landtransportguru.net/gml-volvob8l-nsw-1/

Sydney's getting a Volvo B8L/Gemilang Decker soon, though unsure which operator will receive it.

Good grief...
I'll be right back, I'm just going to get some eye bleach.
I thought losing the Optimus decker for a Bustech CDi was bad enough. Yep, it is an abysmal looking front.

[attachment=0]PB100687AA.jpgI think that the Gemilang lower front design is not assisted by the large dark blue front bumper; in KMB's all over red livery the front looks quite reasonable,in my humble opinion. The photo below was taken in a hurry from a passing bus, the quality is not good and I have had to "crop" it!

Alexander Dennis and Wrightbus who have bodied the majority of Singapore buses in recent years, have similar looking fronts.

Reasonable to assume that the manufacturer or distributor intend on making more than one sale.
