Looks like they’re mostly going for double (or more!) divisions.
For the Hills area at least, routes 878 and 879 are being run by two buses in both the morning and afternoon (this would have been viable since around 2016 I think!). I wonder if the current double division of the 877 will remain?
The 870 is being given a 5th (!) bus in the afternoon
Another 835 (AM) to Mt Barker, conveniently put in between the current 7:30ish departure and the following 9am - I wonder if it will be school days only, or every weekday?
A few more “regular” service double divisions/extra departures:
AM
196F ex-Blackwood
222R ex-City
600 ex-Aberfoyle Hub
605 ex-Darlington
PM
222 ex-Roma Mitchell (presumably a cut-in)
286 ex-Thebarton (presumably a cut-in)
442 ex-Mark Oliphant (presumably a cut-in)
560A ex-Roma Mitchell (presumably a cut-in)
I assume all the other services mentioned are current services being doubled up - with the exception of the new services to the new schools in Angle Vale and Aldinga (routes 488-489 and 788-789 I think)

Re: School Bus Services January 2022
Some of those seem a bit silly. For example there's no need for two 770's. Currently it follows the 733 route as far as the end of Investigator Drive and runs non stop from there and is an artic. The 771, also to Aberfoyle, starts from the next stop along the 733 route (Pimpala Rd) and runs via Reynella Interchange. It is a rigid. Would be better to have a single artic 770 picking up as far as Woodcroft and having the 771 start from there using another artic. Aberfoyle used to be two artics anyway.
I reckon most of these changes were designed by a desk dweller who has never driven a bus.

Next year is the first year of Year 7 in Secondary Schools in SA. It's probably a bit hard to guess what's going to happen, and the double divisions may well be needed or maybe not.
Re: School Bus Services January 2022
No doubt there will be changes to some Route Timetables .
Re: School Bus Services January 2022
The Fairview Park service from the Heights School still seems to be an afternoon-only service. What's the logic behind this? Surely students would have to get to school as well haha

Maybe so, but I’m sure a “desk dweller” has more idea of the enrolment for schools on that route next year than a bus driver wouldSkexis wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 1:15 pm Some of those seem a bit silly. I am sure each operator would have input into these changes.

One presumes that some of the 17 new buses promised for before the start of the school term will go to Southlink.loungeman76 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 6:34 am

Has anyone heard anything about the new buses for the extra school buses starting soon?

Re: School Bus Services January 2022
With the proposed staggered start for kids going to school (only years 1,7,8,11,12 I think) due to Covid I don’t think there’ll be much pressure on bus loadings. The change in school buses is to accommodate the year 7s being at high school but with no (or very few, kids of essential workers) year 9 or 10 kids at high school the loadings would be relatively light.

It would appear that the only timetable changes that will take place at the end of January/beginning of February are the extra school buses to cater for year 7 going into high schools.
Re: School Bus Services January 2022
Not Year 11s either, and I doubt the younger years will take a school bus. Loadings should definitely be light.TT wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:22 am With the proposed staggered start for kids going to school (only years 1,7,8,11,12 I think) due to Covid I don’t think there’ll be much pressure on bus loadings. Re: School Bus Services January 2022
Many schools always stagger the first few days of school between year levels - mainly to ease the younger kids into high school. The only difference this year is all schools are doing it, and all the same year levels.
As for younger kids not taking the bus, I doubt it. They’re usually the ones using the bus the most, as year 11/12s start to get their driving licences.

Re: School Bus Services January 2022
It might be different where I am, I don't see a lot of students at my Year 11/12 only college driving in as the bus is more convenient in our location. Perhaps in the hills or outer suburbs it would be reversed, it would make sense.Lt. Is there any statistics on which year levels use Australian school buses in metropolitan areas?
