Looks like 2 Emeralds and 1 Freshwater per hour.
I haven't seen any announcements about the new Emeralds being ready, but could come in the next few days. Probably waiting for the new Minister to be anointed.

The actual timetable has not been updated to reflect this as yet but then they seem to be behind with the various bus timetables which are changing between Saturdays and weekday timetables. So that does not mean anything. But if it i to start next week I dont think they can wait much longer for a new minister to be anointed.

A few months ago there was an unconfirmed rumour that Manly Fast Ferry would cease when the new ferries came into use on the Manly. But there is a new Manly Fast Ferry timetable from 18 October https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 211018.pdf which does not seem much different to the current one.

Just had a look at the trip finder for Manly to Circular Quay at 9am on 11th October.
The conventional ferry trip takes 34inutes,
Manly Fast Ferry takes 24 minutes,
The new ferries take 26 minutes.
So the Manly Fast Ferry is still a couple of minutes faster.

I looked up the afternoon peak to Manly on the Wednesday and it shows the Emerald service at 22 mins, MFF at 24 mins and the Freshwaters at 30 minutes. I can't see MFF lasting too much longer. The Freshwaters also take 45 mins to turn around, while the Emeralds would, I imagine, turn around before 30 mins. If you want to stick with Opal and don't want a higher fare, the departures are very uneven but they've tried to even the arrival times, like off-peak:
00:05-arrive 00:35(slow), 00:30-arrive 00:52(fast), 00:50-arrive 00:12 (fast).
It also looks like they're artifically lengthening the turnaround time for the Emeralds and shortening it for the Freshwaters. The other thing, for a 30 minute trip, are the Freshwaters using both engines? That would be less economical.

No, 30 minutes is the standard trip time for a Freshwater Class and can be achieved on one engine.

It looked like regular departures from Manly will be at 00:00 (fast) 00:20 (fast), 00:40 (slow). Maybe on two engines and 18 knots! It was usually about a 15 minute turnaround. It looks like they're giving the Emeralds 8 minutes.

The normal timetable has 15 minute turnarounds, but there is a fair bit of time from the last passenger disembarking to the boarding gates opening. Summer Sundays when all 4 ferries were in service operated with 20 minute headways, so turned around in about 10.

That looks like 2 large ferries with a 5 minute turnaround at Manly and a 55 minute layover at CQ off peak.

That is the way I 'read it" with a 55 minute layover at Circular Quay.
The Trip planner show all services arriving and departing side b wharf 3.
That does not make sense if there is a 55mt layover at Circular Quay.

The new ferries won't be entering service next week, so presumably Incats will be used; pre the latest lockdown they operated an off-peak service during the week while one of the Freshwaters was refuelled. The Queenscliff is presumably being withdrawn as it has run of hours / miles before major expenditure is required.

The MV Queenscliff operated her final service this afternoon for Sydney Ferries. The scheduled 1415 departure was pushed back a bit as nearly 500 people boarded for her final voyage into the Quay.

That's a shame, I'm guessing the some of the Emeralds will be replacing some of its shifts. Looks like the Emeralds on the run will be running slowly for the time being, the May Gibbs below has been taking 30 minutes for the run.

I think that figure is rubbery as the timing points at arrival in particular can be variable and TfNSW has adopted 30 minutes simply as a rounded figure. In the time of PJMS, the B class as diesel electrics had a speed of up to 16 knots compared to the Freshwaters' 15 knots on one engine and they were timetabled more accurately at 32 minutes, all a bit academic in any case as the turnaround has been a fixed 45 minutes for decades.In Transit wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:51 pm No, 30 minutes is the standard trip time for a Freshwater Class and can be achieved on one engine.
Also, while looking back through the figures, I see that Freshwater's recent refit cost almost as much in raw dollar figures as the vessel cost to build new! The money would have almost paid for another Emerald. What a first class piece of pork barrelling.

Given that the Northern Beaches electorates are all rock solid Liberal (unless they put up a thoroughly obnoxious candidate), doubt there is anything electorally in it. If peak capacity was to be maintained and all the Freshwaters replaced, would have required 2 more Emeralds.

The emphasis keeps being placed on "loss of capacity", when these ferries are carrying mostly nowhere near capacity loads. The better frequency should more than compensate for any shortfall.
Pre the current lockdown, I watched a shoulder PM peak service leave CQ with 110 passengers on it. A middle of day service early this week had about 20.

Most off-peak services, be they bus, train or ferry operate along way short of their capacities. Wouldn't be taking any patronage observations this week as anything resembling normal. While the roads became noticeably busier this week, the couple of peak hour trains I caught this week, that would normally be full and standing, had a handful of passengers.
Summer Sunday when all four Freshwaters were in operation provided 2,700 seats per hour in each direction, assuming a journey of time of 20 minutes plus 5 to turnaround, would require five 400 seat Emeralds to carry 2,400.
