That bus requires opportunity charging at termini via a pantograph. The electric buses being introduced in Australia are required to operate all day without need for top up charging. Anyway, PTA has an ongoing contract with Volvo.Enviro 500 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 5:42 pm
If 3-door electric buses are to be considered, I suggest the Linkker LM312 that just entered service in Singapore.

Re: Purple cat
All modern electric buses in Australia are battery-storage vehicles with batteries recharged typically overnight (5 to 6 hours), plus up to about 30% charging during driving through regeneration (if driven properly and in the right conditions).

Though the Perth bus isn't the 7900, but no doubt will be closely similar to it.TP1462 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 10:06 am https://www.volvobuses.com/en-wa/about- ... tions.html

Most likely based on the 7900 platform just modified to suit PTAs requirements. I’m curious if it’ll be a full triple door bus now that there’s no longer an engine in the rear. we’ve only seen one side profiletonyp wrote:Though the Perth bus isn't the 7900, but no doubt will be closely similar to it.TP1462 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 10:06 am https://www.volvobuses.com/en-wa/about- ... tions.html

Re: Purple cat
Whereas the 7900 is an integral bus, this new BZL has been developed as a chassis on which other bodybuilders can build the body. The possibility of having a rear door will depend on whether Volvo moves the LHD drivetrain at the rear across to the other side of the chassis.

Introduction of Purple CAT
Sun 27 Feb
From Sunday 27 February the Purple CAT will start running, travelling between Elizabeth Quay Bus Station and UWA South, via QEII
https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Porta ... ET-g%3d%3d
The Purple CAT will operate every day of the week, including public holidays at the following times:
Monday to Friday
Every 10 minutes during the day
Every 15 minutes during the evening
Every 30 minutes later at night.
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays
Every 15 minutes during the day
Every 30 minutes at night.
The Purple CAT will depart Stand B5 in Elizabeth Quay Bus Station.
With the launch of the Purple CAT, all Perth CAT services will no longer automatically stop at all stops.
If you wish to catch a CAT bus you will need to hail the bus from the bus stop
If you wish to get off the bus you will need to ring the bell
Perth CAT buses now operate in the same way as a regular bus service.
In conjunction with the launch of the Purple CAT, there will be changes to other QEII / UWA services. Find more information on those changes here.
While the Purple CAT is a free service, passengers still have access to a range of other Transperth services to and from the CBD, which will not cost you anything additional if you are transferring services.
For further assistance or to plan your journey call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13 (TIS: 13 14 50) Hearing or speech impaired? Call via NRS 133 677.

Re: Purple cat
RIP 103. Only a matter of time before it vanishes.
Should have made it start from the Busport. There's no connection between Busport and PCH.
23 can merge with 995. 995, in turn, can merge with 970.
Also, looks like 107 realignment in Mosman Park has been culled for good.

I once suggested running 103 down Wellington Street on the now defunct Routes One site. I believe you saw it too.Squiddy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:27 am950? Re: Purple cat
There may be some merit in the idea - keeping the 26 (given it services Hollywood Private Hospital) and commencing that at the Busport might be different enough from the Purple CAT, 24, 96, 97 etc that it could continue to exist on a basic timetable.
Scenarios like this do tend to highlight the problems of having two major termini servicing radically different needs (EQ being trains, and some southern/western buses, Busport being a huge number of services from an area without heavy rail) that are just a bit too far apart. How many services should start at one and at least pass nearby the other? How do you accommodate niches like the elderly or physically-infirm who need convenient access to a Hospital - should they have a direct service, or need to catch something to EQ (30, 31, 34)? How do you complement, rather than duplicate, a free service like the Purple CAT?

Re: Purple cat
IMO the Purple CAT goes too far outside of the CBD, which is part of the cause of the issue. Potentially, the non-CAT Thomas St services could skip every other stop where the CAT and said services overlap?
I agree generally on routing the 103 via Wellington St - it could enter the Busport and terminate, or continue to the current East Perth terminus. The 26 could also do the same thing, but continue via EQBS instead. I might expand on these in the appropriate routes thread.

I'd post any important, bus-related links I had, but they're outdated anyways.
