It was a foolish decision to introduce glass shelters that are destroyed with a single smash
Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
They should not be smashed in the first instance. Tells you about the quality of people we deal with.boxythingy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 8:15 pm It was a foolish decision to introduce glass shelters that are destroyed with a single smash
An asset of NSW. All opinions/comments are strictly my own.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
That's right, but can you imagine someone being deemed not of sound mind for building wooden carriages in the 21st century?
Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
So looks like the new contractor is more video screen focused.
I just hope they are smart enough to integrate real time bus info with the screens. In my mind it's a win-win as more people will actually look at the ads

It's important that the new shelters be functional. The Decaux shelters are not. If you sit on the seat you cant see the bus coming because of the advertising.

Would be practical to have the lights or screens change colour or increase in luminosity when there is someone within a specified vicinity of the bus stop.
Would be particularly useful during quieter times to assist the driver with identifying potential boarding passengers.

Jump to 2022.....
As you may have noticed, a few hundred Sydney City bus shelters have been removed due to change of contractor, but the new shelters are rather slow to replace them. The contractor / manager has blamed Covid and the weather, but I'm not impressed.....
Comments as to the FUNCTIONALITY of the new shelters would be welcomed here.

Strange. Certainly all the Decaux shelters I used the advertising was only on the forward side.lunchbox wrote:It's important that the new shelters be functional. The Decaux shelters are not. If you sit on the seat you cant see the bus coming because of the advertising.

Shame to see them go, I had grown quite attached to them.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpdKTeN ... l=JCDecaux Found this video, do these heated JCDeaux shelters still exist?

NEW BUS SHELTERS.
Have you noticed....the ads appear quite quickly within the new shelters, but bus info is totally absent. Does ANY one of the new shelters have bus service info?

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
No doubt TfNSW is responsible for putting up the bus info. They are probably not aware yet that the shelters have changed.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
Bus Shelter at Willoughby Rd & Garland Rd going to Chatswood has not had a timetable displayed for many months although there is a timetable displayed at the opposite stop going to the City. Route 120 buses run every 10 minutes in the day so not really a problem. Also Route 115 buses use these stops.

HIGH-VOLUME STOPS - SIGHTLINES
High-loading-numbers stops may have 2 shelters. The advertising panel associated with the "upstream" shelter obscures bus arrival sightlines for intending passengers seated in the downstream shelter.
City Council responded (30.6.22) to my complaint with - "Each individual location was has (sic) been assessed by the City’s Public Domain team as a part of the development application process. In instances that you’ve highlighted the site lines have been deemed adequate."
I'd appreciate it if readers could log here, sites where the bus-arrival sightlines, as described above, are compromised.
Thanks.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
Only double I'm aware of is at Potts Point (El Alamein Fountain).
And the view is exactly the same as it was before - also a double with advertising signs and trees in the same position.
Most of the other doubles in the CBD are still yet to be installed.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
Thanks moa999. There's that tree separating the El Alamein shelters, so there's 11m separation between the downstream seat and the ad panel. Sightlines for approaching buses are pretty OK.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
Wynyard has been bereft of shelters now for at least a month, during some of the rainiest weather we've ever seen. Not great coordination.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
"Twin" shelters have been erected in Park St., east of Elizabeth St. Sightlines between bus driver and intending passenger in the "downstream" shelter are woefull. The designers don't seem to understand that good sightlines beween driver and intending passenger are fundamental to the efficient operation of the Sydney bus network.
Kindly complain to City Council......

Interesting to see a new shelter in Dacey Ave Moore park outside the ES Marks field. Hasn't been a bus service here for years. At least the signage for the 048 service has gone now.

I think the new shelters look good in having that very modern look, my only complaint would be that the seats aren’t comfortable for your back

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
Reading this worries me about the new B set PIDs, if the rail network gets privatised they'll certainly be playing advertisements.

That's OK. Gets a bit boring just watching station names all the time.

Re: New bus stop shelters for Sydney?
I'd say that they probably won't looking at the private bus operators at the moment utilising the screens on newer buses for basic TfNSW ads (Based on my experience with Transdev South anyway). It's probably just out of pure laziness and less demand, though I do see wider appeal on trains. We'll just have to see where it goes.GriffinRoads1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 3:28 pm Reading this worries me about the new B set PIDs, if the rail network gets privatised they'll certainly be playing advertisements.
It's starting to get slightly off topic however.
