The pdf files should be able to be manipulated or configured by Transport in such a way as to make it work. Not that difficult in 2022, except for mediocrity and/or bureaucracy getting in the way of making progress.

Having worked in another industry where I was involved in developing software to do this sort of thing, I know that it is not as simple as it sounds when the information is created by different types of software which is not compatible. Hence the other states developing the timetable files centrally.

Not necessarily, Transit Systems haven't purchased any Gemilangs since it purchased diesels and its region 6 purchases have indicated that it is not aligned to any manufacturer with chassis from Mercedes, Scania and Volvo fitted with bodies from Bustech, Custom, Gemilang and Volgren in various combinations.

Classic Sydney bus procurement - a bit of everything, mixed in with a bit of everything else, ordered in the fashion of a cottage industry making bespoke orders rather than Australia’s largest bus network….

Really great for repairs and inventory. I guess it prevents highway robbery when you're not over dependent on one manufacturer *cough* *cough* LeyMercvolv!

U-Go Mobility, a joint venture between UGL and Go-Ahead, also announced as a successful tenderer for "the Sutherland Shire and Bankstown regions of Sydney".

Go-Ahead being 51% owned by Kinetic. Thus Transdev will cease operating the last of its original regions, although it will still have an involvement through its shareholding in the region 9 operator.

Transdev is not coming out of this very well.
Obviously this covers region 10 but where does this leave region 5? Still be operated by Punchbowl or another operator or is it included in this announcement which does not seem to mention specific regions? But as said in the 743 post, the word "regions" is mentioned in plural.

Will the new region 10 operator takeover the 989 or will the operator allow the subcontractor to continue operating the route

Was somewhere on Facebook and of course I can't find the link now, but it mentioned this was for regions 5 and 10... so presuming that means Punchbowl Bus Co's Sydney operations go to them as well?

One wonders what on earth they've done... The announcement from Kelsian/Transit Systems quoted previously cited their prior performance as part of the success in their bid - does past performance count towards a successful tender, or purely cost?

That will be up whatever arrangements the operators come to. We will have to wait and see.

Transdev haven't necessarily done anything wrong, merely been outscored by other bidders against the predetermined scorecard on which bids are assessed. Short of having made a complete hash of a contract, which would most likely see it not short-listed in the first place, prior performance is unlikely to carry much weight.

Quite true. It's just hard not to notice that they've chalked up a few losses these past few years - although I'm not dedicated enough to trawl the internet and compare their lost contracts against those they've gained.

Go-Ahead has confirmed U-Go Mobility will takeover both regions 5 and 10 which will operate as region 10. So the end of the road for Punchbowl Bus Company, at least in Sydney.

Another ounce of evidence toward the general idea that the free-market is really only a fantasy ... In the long run, the market moves towards monopoly, if not an oligopoly. In either instance, I feel that means entrenchment of bumbling bureaucracies.

That leaves Interline as the only original pre contract era hold out unless CDC were around before too?

Don't forget about Busways in Region 1.

CDC only joined in in September 2005 when buying Westbus and Hillbus, just shortly after the contracts thing started. But if viewing CDC as a continuation of Hillsbus (which it kind of is), then CDC/Hillsbus in Region 4 would be another original operator.

At least Transdev still operates via Transdev John Holland, the ferries and the light rail, still pretty good.

Nah, that’s right, CDC was around then and they’re still around now (at least)
They started off with Regions 1, 3 and 4 (Westbus in 3 and the Penrith half of 1 in case anyone forgot). Only one of those original CDC operations remains active today.

Oh yes Busways too. They still do the Blacktown and surrounds from Glendenning depot, whatever that region is, from Rowes days?
