And presumably Interline’s Leppington depot.

It’ll be interesting to see what the new mob taking over regions 5 and 10 as the only depot build in the lifetime of the current contracts has been The Crescent/Kingsgrove. And possibly Bonds Road.

Would Interlines Leppington depot be in the contract as it opened sometime after after the SWRL opened

It would also apply to South Granville.

And it could also apply to all Transdev's depots in regions 5 and 10 as that may be covered by the special clause in their contract that all buses and I think depots would be transferred if they lost the contracts in the future. They got some concessions because of that.

Ans I dont know whether Bonds Road is regarded as a TNSW owned depot.

Bankstown Depot and South Granville Depot were included in the new R3-R13 contract. Revesby Depot will most likely become a storage depot for Transdev and for any future charter only operation.

Busways retains region 1
https://www.busways.com.au/news-items/b ... ern-sydney
Busways will continue to operate bus services in Western Sydney, one of the fastest growing regions in Sydney, after retaining the region’s bus operations following a competitive open tender process.

Busways was awarded the new Greater Sydney Bus Contract 1 by the NSW Government today commencing in December 2023 for the next seven years.

It will see Busways transporting over 8 million passengers on nearly 1.1 million bus trips a year, operating over 350 buses at the Penrith, Blacktown and Mulgrave bus depots as well as continued delivery of the award-winning Cooee Busways On Demand service.

Busways retains bus operations in Western Sydney

Busways Managing Director Byron Rowe said the decision recognises Busways’ proven performance delivering high standards of customer experience, safety and service innovation.

“We appreciate the NSW Government backing an Australian operator and are thrilled that 80 years after we first started running passenger transport services in Blacktown in 1942, we can continue to serve customers in our Western Sydney heartland.

Since 2013, Busways has been operating all bus services in Region 1.

“In the last 10 years we’ve invested heavily in the Western Sydney network, with a substantial capital works program including two brand new state-of-the-art smart depots at Penrith and Mulgrave, installation of electrical charging infrastructure to support the roll-out of zero emissions buses (ZEB), fleet improvements and 12 ZEBs into service in Penrith, among many other improvements.

“Partnering with Transport for NSW, we’ve also improved customer experience by introducing nearly 40 timetable improvements since 2013 and establishing Sydney’s most popular On Demand bus service in The Ponds in 2019.

“Under Busways management, overall customer satisfaction with the bus network has increased by 20% over 10 years to 94% in 2022 and patronage grew by 36%, outpacing population growth.

For the next seven years, Mr Rowe said Busways will focus on delivering world-class bus passenger services to the Western Sydney community.

“We’ll continue to invest in the region and focus on getting all the little things right that add up to a better experience for customers on the integrated transport network.

“We’ll also continue to introduce efficiencies and new technologies throughout the region, including the rollout of zero emissions buses and supporting implementation of the Transport for NSW Future Transport vision.

“It is an exciting time to be serving the Western Sydney community. Western Sydney has grown into Sydney’s second major hub, and that evolution will continue over the life of the Contract with further residential and commercial expansion and major infrastructure works, such as Western Sydney Airport and the Aerotropolis.

“We look forward to continuing our highly effective and positive working relationship with the NSW Government to deliver customer value and introduce innovations that help more people to easily, quickly and safely use public transport.”

“We are a passionate and energised team backed by a solid and respected track record. We’re a unique Australian story. We started running one passenger service in 1942 driven by the belief that people need great public transport. Almost eight decades later we’re still passionate and committed to providing a valued bus service that can be relied on.” Mr Rowe added.

In fact only a few of the contracts have been renewed - in most cases new contracts have been issued.

Presuming no break clauses are activated, next ones to expire should be region 6 in 2028.

Of the 14 regions going into the current cycle, 4 were retained by the incumbent (1, 3, 4, 14), 6 awarded to new operators (2, 6-10) and 4 eliminated (5, 12, 13, 15).

If you search 234 on Google maps it will drop you on the depot.

Looking forward to seeing U-Go Mobility. It is Kinetic's second business unit after its success in winning one of the PTV contracts, previously held by Transdev VIC.

I have not been able to find anything to say that U-Go Mobility is part of Kinetic. Can anyone confirm that?

Ah, Go Northwest. IIRC they purchased the assets of the old First Manchester operation.

That said, GA has done pretty well in Singapore and had their contract for Loyang package extended twice. I have a feeling they will be bidding for neighbouring Hougang package when it gets farmed out within the next couple of years.

Finding this discussion hard to follow. Is a UK based company now a part contract operator on Sydney?

With neither UGL or Go-Ahead having any existing bus operations in Australia they were possibly going to be relying on Go-Ahead Singapore management to steer it. With Go-Ahead now part of Kinetic, it will probably be run by people from the latter's existing Australian businesses. Kinetic''s Sydney Telford' Tours subsidiary operates a number of services for Eastern Suburbs private schools from the Sutherland Shire. Wouldn't be surprised to see these buses outstationed overnight at U-Go's Taren Point depot to save on dead running to and from Turella.

What will happen with Interline's Macquarie Fields depot when the new region 2 contract starts will it be sold or would Transit Systems have to make a deal with Interine to use the depot

Will be up to the operators, AFAIK it isn't a franchise asset, so there is no requirement for Interline to make it available or for Transit Systems to take it over.

Its in transition, with vehicles and the depot having been rebranded, although the Teford website remains active. This will presumably be directed to to this one once complete. Accreditation remains as Marrickville Bus Lines.
