Are we talking about the MAN 8 wheeler that used to be stationed at the southern approach to the SHB?
That should remain OUR property.

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
I guess it will be left for the contractor to use although it was originally used for any STA bus that came to grief in the city and surrounds, not for one region's exclusive use.
I had a spin in a Scania recovery vehicle like the old 001 in Waverley depot once. Sounded amazing. Might have been that very lorry unless STA ran two or more of them.
It had a t bar automatic and a very enthusing exhaust brake.

The Showbus site shows what looks like a Scania 82M. Transdev in Perth still have their MTT/Metrobus example in use. Have heard it drive by before, very agricultural sounding beast - quite nice!

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
I would assume that due to STA owning it, it technically can be passed on to TfNSW as the inheritor in which case, the management centre (TMC) can then take ownership of it in terms of using its crew to run it as a heavy duty tow available in the CBD and surrounds although finding a park for it might be challenging once STA finally gets wound down.

Stable it in a region 6,7,8 or 9 depot. They will continue to be Publicly owned.

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
I recon have TfNSW/TMC own & operate it but stipulate in region contracts that operators must be willing to board it as required. Have a Caltex card in it and have the drivers fuel it on TfNSW/TMC's dime.

Had a ride many years ago in CT-109 (?) the Leyland tow truck from Willoughby. That thing was awesome!

They are my favourite era Scania trucks both in looks and sound. I used to see the P&O Cold Storage single axle tractor units around Sydney and the engine note as the cogs were being swapped was extremely satisfying.
Oh yes, the Buffalo on it's fifth engine. Lots of memories hearing that roar. Unfortunately a cab ride isn't one of them!

Interesting to note that the Busways website is yet to update with Region 7 information. The timetables and network map available are still the STA format, with the timetables of course saying busways as the operator, but no service information available.

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
I looked them up on Monday when the timetable links were there and they linked to TfNSW format timetables which show Busways as the operator .
https://www.busways.com.au/nsw/plan-you ... timetables
https://transportnsw.info/documents/tim ... 220109.pdf
There is no such thing as STA format timetables.
What more information are you looking for?

To be pedantic, the network map isn't an "STA format" either

I’m referring to the network map, it’s in STA format, not busways/private operator format, merely STA region including all other services. Compare it to their region 1 map, or any other for reference
Re: New bus contractss
Given that it works, perhaps Busways decided it had better things to do than reinvent the wheel.

And they don’t have a service disruptions page for region 7 yet either

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
No it is NOT in STA format but again it is the Transport for New South Wales map issued 21 January 2021 when the network changes were introduced.
Why would Busways issue a new map when there are no changes. When future changes are introduced it will be up to Busways/Transport for NSW to conjointly ensure that a new map is introduced.
If there is any criticism due it should be to Transport for NSW where on their info website https://transportnsw.info/travel-info/w ... rator-maps it still shows this region as being operated by State Transit.

Did the STA have one? - No - Again a function for the combined Transport for NSW Info website. Duplicating these functions only causes confusion.gilberations wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 1:15 pm And they don’t have a service disruptions page for region 7 yet either

I guess you are referring to page https://www.busways.com.au/nsw/plan-you ... ay-updated where it has not yet been added. Hopefully still coming.
Overall the Busways website as far this change over is concerned is 100% better that the Keolis Downer one for region 6 where none of this information is available so congratulations to Busways as far as I am concerned.

Rome wasn't built in a day. There is an extensive list of things that need to happen when an operator changes hands. Some of the nice to have rather than must have items will end up down the priority list.

I feel like this kind of thing should have been done in the preparation stage of the take over though
Re: New bus contracts
Without knowing how Busways, State Transit or Transport for NSW's systems operate, non of us really know what could and couldn't be done before Busways got its feet under the desk. Like many organisations, Busways may have been affected by COVID-19 induced staff absentees that has resulted in the time line slipping.

Re: New bus contractss
Like change the format of the existing destinations on the dot matrix displays from something that already worked?
Or is there something about copyright/ownership of the destination files that means the incoming operator has to redo (all of) them?
Well I did see an out of service Busways (Ryde) bus at Parramatta today with the Busways "B" logo in the rear dot matrix display, so assuming one of their changes was to incorporate that (and probably remove the "State Transit" references).

Re: New bus contracts to drive improved services (as from 2020)
Apparently a couple of Y buses have now appeared with revised fleet numbers.
Do we yet know if all Y and M buses are being renumbered, or just those that duplicate existing fleet numbers elsewhere in the empire?
That’s going to cause a bit of confusion given that STA fleet numbers have always matched the rego plates and drivers have been easily able to identify each bus either head on or tail on.
Will they be consecutive in depot order or by type collectively between the two depots?
