No it is not -if it was not a pipe dream there would have to be definite plans for it which there are not.

Fleet Lists does have a point so I will only post on here viewtopic.php?t=91472&start=250flitter wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 2:15 pm The whole speculative ‘tunnelling from sydney to Melbourne’ epic seems to need its own topic too.
It speaks volumes about the current HSR investigation that there’s virtually nothing being posted in this thread recently that’s more than a pipe dream (excuse the pun)

Re: NSW High Speed Rail... Again
I agree it would not suit most people but those older single people with freestanding homes may want to upgrade to a huge maintenance free Parrahub unit where they can have friends, grandchildren or even rent out a couple of rooms for extra cash.
It would not only put many family homes on the market but would provide all services and transport at the push of a button as well as providing a maglev station to Canberra, Albury and Melbourne with 20,000 parking spaces.

But this latest proposal goes nowhere near Canberra, Albury or Melbourne.eddy wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 11:04 amI agree it would not suit most people but those older single people with freestanding homes may want to upgrade to a huge maintenance free Parrahub unit where they can have friends, grandchildren or even rent out a couple of rooms for extra cash.

Stokes showing his ignorance, St Pancras station is on the fringe of the London CBD, not miles away from it like Parramatta. Surprisingly High Speed Rail AFAIK hasn't been wheeled in the federal election campaign. Maybe they have figured that the electorate have woken up to the the fact they have no intention of actually doing anything.
Re: NSW High Speed Rail... Again
But how long does it take to get from St Pancras to Bank (the centre of the city) on the tube? 15+ minutes depending on route, not much better than Parramatta to Hunter Street on Metro West.

We can but hope. 35 years of it.

Re: NSW High Speed Rail... Again
St Pancras is to London like Central is to Sydney, on the border of the cbd. London has six zones radiating out from the cbd, St Pancras is in zone 1. If Sydney had 6 zones, Parramatta would be in zone 3. That it takes 15 minutes to travel three kilometres by tube is reflective of there being no direct service.grog wrote: ↑But how long does it take to get from St Pancras to Bank (the centre of the city) on the tube? 15+ minutes depending on route, not much better than Parramatta to Hunter Street on Metro West.

Have you forgotten about that new 4 track bridge at Wyong? That's their contribution to "fast rail"at least.Linto63 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 12:55 pm Stokes showing his ignorance, St Pancras station is on the fringe of the London CBD, not miles away from it like Parramatta. There's also the (former) second bridges at Cockle Creek, Gosford and I guess the Union Bridge if you're daring to go that far.

Re: NSW High Speed Rail... Again
I saw him and the transit minister on Nine news fawning over the shinkansen and the usual nauseating posturing and talking it up like it was really going to be built here.
They see it for themselves and go goo gah over it, but as soon as they return, it's nice and quiet again. Same ole.
The only good thing was an incredible scenic shot of the train I wish I had recorded on my PVR.

Re: NSW High Speed Rail... Again
A cab ride by our fearless leader has enlightened him to the fact that trains in a straight line can travel faster than those having to negotiate corners. Most of us worked that out at when we fell off our first ride on toy at speed aged 3.

Nowhere in the world true HSR takes freight so you are stuck with trucks.

Re: NSW High Speed Rail... Again
If I'm not mistaken, this money is for tweaks to the existing line around Wyong to separate freight from passenger services. Maybe working towards "fast rail" but would be nothing to do with a future HSR line? The first priority of the Authority will be planning and corridor works for the Sydney to Newcastle section of the high-speed rail network, backed by a $500 million commitment from the Australian Government.
