Return of trolleybuses (outside the capital)

Post by Myrtone »

There has been protest against the trolleybus abandonment in Wellington. Wellington was the first city in New Zealand with an electrified suburban network and there are no plans to de-electrify the suburban network. New Zealand has also seen some more recent railway electrification, the North Island main line and the Auckland electrification.
But so far, no trolleybus revivals. Compare the difference between a trolleybus and a diesel bus with the difference between a straight electric train and a diesel train.

It is most unlikely any new conventional t/b systems will be established, but existing systems will continue to be maintained.

Yet it is likely that many new tram systems with overhead wires will be established. And a few new trolleybus systems have been established elsewhere in the world.
