Orana and Citaro are different buses. Wrong topic.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Gas Scania withdrawals have begun again, with 3625, 3626 and 3627 all being withdrawn so far this week, with rumours more are to come.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
With all the Gas Scanias now gone (3661 remains registered but hasn't been sighted in use since August), the next retirements will be the Low Floor Scanias at Randwick.
A significant proportion of the Low Floor Scania fleet at R will reach their 26 years early next year ahead of the handover of Region 9 to a private operator. I would imagine the decreased bus requirements that will come with the new network in Region 9 will see much of the fleet retired.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
The 40 bus net reduction in the region 9 fleet plus the 10 Custom Dennings electrics on order should have finished the remaining 50 off. But maybe State Transit taking over the operation of the L1 replacement service may see some granted a state of execution.

In another thread it has been posted that buses are supplied by Randwick, Waverley and Ryde.

In the IWLR thread, it was mentioned that once region 7 goes to Busways, region 9 will take full responsibility, then that idea is a possibility.

Most of the trips were operated by Ryde over the past two days, explaining why a Y bus would have been shown on the news. Randwick and Waverley have both been seen supplementing, but only a few trips each.
As it as been assigned officially to R9, I would expect that once R7 is gone to Busways, R9 will pick up the slack. Given the reduced bus requirement in R9 from 5 December, that would seem like a logical time for R9 to take over from Y on the 498/499."

Transit Systems’ 3661 was operating an outbound service along Broadway at about 1630 today, just when it appeared all the high-floors were gone.

I guess that's stopping the gas fuelling facilities from being decommissioned.

It appears that 3710 and 3715 were withdrawn from Randwick last month. It also appears that a significant proportion of the remaining 28 L113 Oranas at Randwick will be withdrawn from the end of this week with the changes to the bus network in Region 9.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Not that it necessarily means anything, but some of the older Scanias have been operating this week with the new timetable destination codes. Guess whether they are retained may depend on whether it is planned for Ryde to continue to provide buses for the Inner West Light Rail shutdown after Busways takeover region 7 in a bit over a month.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Hopefully some of these make it into the 2nd hand market with private operators but I fear the horse may have already bolted on that if said private operators are already sufficient from what they've picked up of the ex Transdev Melbourne buses (O405NH's and various MAN's). NSBC already have 4 L113CRL's ex STA, wonder if they'll pick up more?
I assume that means from here on out these are parts buses and whatever remains of them by the end is sent for scrapping?

Not at 26 years old, while some occasionally see further use with private operators, the majority of State Transit vehicles now go for scrap.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Even though they're functioning perfectly and really don't look or feel any older to ride on than Customs era buses.
All from an arbitrary fleet age rule brought in by Greiner/Baird designed to generate sales for the Euro commercial vehicle makers and body builders.

Forgot Bondi Junction depot was running them.
Need to take some photos of some sitting at the depot.
