The other notable feature of the 14.5s was the brake squeal.Ben_Daui wrote:I remember when the 14.5’s where 1st introduced into service at P, the ride quality was certainly more stiffer then a MK 5 merc but the speed on the 14.5 was amazing the Mercs just didn’t have the take off power and riding the 14.5 on Anzac Pde between Kingsford and Maroubra Junction with the camber of the left lane the bus would just handle it smoothly, after a while though then going over pot holes and bumps they started to squeak and the vibrations from idling would get annoying but over all the 14.5’s were the best of the Orana’s as they had good heating and cooling, the low floors I would rate better over the Gas Orana’s due to the sluggish acceleration.

The routes that i saw the most Gas Scanias on were the 412,413,473,487,490 and 492.Stu wrote:joshurandazzo wrote:KIngsgrove depot nostalgia time:
before January 2013 all 100 Scania L113CRB CNGs were in Kingsgrove depot. At this time Kingsgrove was a Orana only depot with the only buses being L113CRB's,CRLs and TRBs. I always use to love getting the Gas Scania's on the 413 and the 412 . i use to always call them " buses with steps" back in 2009-2012. i use to get so excited when i saw one come around the corner at the 413 bus stop in Campsie. The drivers all knew me and the old nan. I use to love the sound the gearbox made (back then i never knew that the high pitched sound was the gearbox). 3517 (?) was the one I can remember being the loudest. i was always annoyed when i got a low floor CRL because the gearbox did not make as loud of a sound. Me and my grandmother always use to sit in the front seat i liked watching the way the driver turned the wheel and went around tight corners. The gas scanias were used very commonly on almost all kingsgrove routes except the 477. i remember one time i was in Marrickville back in 2012 and the only buses i saw for over 30 min was high floor gas scanias.
Well that's my story. Sorry about the lack of Punctuation i'm not the smartest of people.
Scania K280UB CB80 units were at Kingsgrove at this stage as the Volvo B12 Euro 5's were transferred out by then end of 2012. Kingsgrove has never been 100% Orana especially when the depot used to stable more than 200 buses or when that number was heavily reduced when 'route optimisation' occurred and Tempe acquired many buses from Kingsgrove.
The Scania CNG units were regularly rostered to route 426 due to following the same path as 423 as to/from Marrickville and terminating at Dulwich Hill where the 428 would pass through, this would allow accessible buses to be used on longer routes. Route 418 was another route that was a common sight for this type of bus until route optimisation in May 2013 saw this route transferred to Tempe until October 2013 when routes 418 & 357 were merged (for 5 x years) which meant Randwick would operate about 50% of the trips.

Which TSA R6/STA route would I most likely see a Scania L113CRB operate on? Apart from 389 and 442

I second the 504 as a common CRB route for TSA. I'd say the 504 and 389 are the most common routes I've seen TSA's CRBs on.

^ High frequency routes like the above are ideal as these high floor buses can be dispatched during the peak periods which will reduce any impacts towards customers who require an accessible bus.
Waverley used to dispatch Scania cng buses during the off peak in routes 352 & 378. Other routes had preferential treatment regarding accessible buses.

Anybody remembers this advert in 1994. It mostly consists of Scania L113CRB CNGs

They should have included a some Mercs still in the old UTA scheme and even thrown in a Leyland Leopard or two even though they were retired!!
Hard to believe the final Mark1 Mercedes had been retired the same year.

Why are they still repainting the L113CRLs Oranas from Corporate V2 to TNSW if they are going to be retired in 2-3 years. Isn't it a waste of money?

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
There is a very small handful of Scania L113 low entry units that had the TfNSW livery applied as a vinyl wrap since TSA took over Region 6. 3842 was returned to Kingsgrove Depot in recent days in the TfNSW livery - unsure if it is painted or vinyl.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
With only 3 L113CRB CNGs at STA and 14 at TSA, it must be nearly time for their retirement now. The 17 that are left seem to go out fairly regularly of a weekday. I know that the STA ones like to operate 200s, L24s, 379s and 380s amongst school runs, whilst the TSA ones seem to frequent the 389, 440, 445 and 504 amongst school runs.
Will be sad to see another lot of Oranas go.

Will the L113CRB Oranas make it till Christmas or will they be withdrawn before then? I am referring to the TSA ones the STA ones are long gone.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
The 3 STA CRBs are still in regular use. They have completed 14 trips between them this AM Peak across the 324, 360, 379, 380 and school runs. They have also been operating 379s and 400s during the middle of the day and were sighted on Airport line rail replacement last weekend. All have body dates 1/95 so they could well be with us till Christmas.
All the TSA CRBs have body dates later in 95, so they could well be with us until some point next year. I would have imagined that retiring their contingent of NHs would have been more pressing?

The final passenger trip of a Gas Scania with State Transit occurred on 25/02/21, with 3509 operating the 09:40 400 ex Airport to Bondi Junction.
I had the pleasure of being a passenger on this trip, and on the farewell tour it was involved in the following weekend.
12 left with TSA, 0 with STA

They must be pretty good to have held this long.
I remember when they were being delivered in 1994 and 95.
