Your uniqueness blows me away that's cool, I was thinking today when I was riding on the obarn that I could imagine that Swift driving that white Fairlane with guide wheels on it also talking about the Adelaide obarn today I saw a bus driver with a pretty expensive looking camera, on the other side of the fence taking photos.

Now there's a next level way to make my car a bus ✌.Big Engine Mechanic wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 5:17 pm Your uniqueness blows me away that's cool, I was thinking today when I was riding on the obarn that I could imagine that Swift driving that white Fairlane with guide wheels on it also talking about the Adelaide obarn today I saw a bus driver with a pretty expensive looking camera, on the other side of the fence taking photos.
Would give that driver something to really photograph, a self driving Fairlane sporting NSW plates shooting along the O-bahn with cruise set to 100. Hopefully he'd capture the hubbo in action as well ha ha.

They are all very cool. I was thinking and this is a bit of a weird concoction but I came up with this idea of you getting out of your Fairlane and as your doing so the car goes down and makes a Tisss noise ? I can so totally see that.

Wow ok. The rear self levelling suspension was removed by the previous owner, so not anymore!

Yer the previous owner of mine took the fuse out near the steering wheel, they were known to have some issues I'm a bit afraid to put a new fuse in.

The old Veeder-Root is one of my favourites. Very good design that's been in the trucking and bus industry for decades. Looks really good.Big Engine Mechanic wrote: ↑Wed Sep 09, 2020 7:47 pm Your a very interesting person,

Wow !! It's nice to see somebody do different things like that.
Second picture reminds me of my front porch after I've spent the day tinkering with my car and it's like I'm tired now I'm done but then I remember I've got to clean up and put everything away

Well that's set out nicely!
That's good you've got all your nuts and bolts in a muffin baking tray, at the moment I'm using a 1 litre Pyrex measuring cup to do that with, that I usually use for measuring coolant, water and oil.
That's good your using mats and towels to put your tools on,
I should really use a mat to kneel on too, by not doing it over time I have made my knees look pointy
Is that an electronic jack I see?
That's a good idea, me I just use your standard trolley jack.
I also see you've got your mowers lined up there.

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
Yes that's actually a 4WD motorised scissor jack I bought at Aldi years ago. Nice steady lifting and lowering unlike a hydraulic hand pumped one when you go to let it down.
I still use one when I need to lift both wheels off the ground and sometimes one when it's not worth the bother setting up the 12V one.
I got the muffin tin idea from Car Wizard a U.S mechanic's and car channel which spun off Hoovies Garage. He regularly gives out tips he picked up in the trade. I found a pair of those tins on a toss out recently.
Works really well in organising the different fasteners when dismantling parts of your car so you don't mix them up out misplace them.
My dad came up with the idea of using a dirty towel to place your tools on to keep them together and not get scratched up and full of grit on the cement. Sine people just throw them on the ground and that's ok, but I want to keep my good ones free of fatigue where I can.

That's really good
I have a few tool boxes so I just bring out a tool box with the tools I need in them, I'd like one of those really big ones but they cost several thousands and I've been on the move a lot through out my life, or I just bring out the box the tools came in, I'm a little bit ocd about making sure they are all back in the same spot and facing up the right way, I do polish them every so often but it's more like rags or bottles of something or I need some other strange wacky idea thing to fix this other than a tool I would throw on the ground.

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
I think those tool cabinets are a waste of money. As long as I know where all my tools are kept, I'm ok.
There's a mechanic Scotty Kilmer who has a you tube channel in Texas who works from home and his garage is a shambles and he claims he knows where any tool is kept and doesn't need to be orderly about them.
He doesn't believe in having a hoist either and says a real mechanic gets under a car lol!! I and other viewers commented in his channel that he should be using support stands which he wasn't in that video and he denied it was necessary, but has since had a change of stance on stands and now leads by example and recommends to always use them when under a car and not just the jack(s).

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
Haha yes I've seen things go wrong when people don't use stands.
I don't have a shed at the moment so everything is inside, to be able to wheel out everything would be nice.
I'm one of these people that has to have order not just tools but my whole house.
I'm a bit ocd - I even have to put my bathroom products facing the right way round in order or I will go nuts same with everything else.
To be fair on customers to drive a vehicle onto a lift and work on it is quicker and cheaper though.

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
I'll take the hoist every time -as long as there's an appropriate place to set up.
Here's a pic I took of my tool spread dismantling an electric garden shredder I found.

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
Really? I threw it in the trash after getting any useful nuts and bolts off it. The motor is faulty as it makes a humming noise without spinning and that was after I checked for obstructions.

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
I used a screwdriver to pry off the retaining ring and slid out the mechanism. Interesting to see how it works.
Plastic disc in body moves a lever up and down.
Black lever with loop that disc spins in moves up and down, turning the little wheel in fine increments, which in turn moves the numbers on the face.

Re: Does this make my car a bus?
Another case of a hubbo being older than the vehicle it's attached to, but not by much. The truck, a Kenworth tipper, is from 1979, the hubodometer is from 1977.
