A slightly improved installation method. Note the red fibre washers under the bolts to allow some give and a pair of spring washers underneath that act as spacers as well as providing tension to prevent the bolts turning.
This allows me to leave the centre cap of the wheel in place. Hubbo is firm. You cannot move it. :)

The Mechanex brand is back and this time with a more suited set up. I made the bracket out of a discarded power window regulator frame cut to size as it had a hole suited to the much larger stud of this hubodometer.
It looks convoluted but it sits right on centre and the nut at the back of the hubbo clears the wheel surface by a hair's breadth.

It's not a bus!

Revitalised tired looking lenses with this clear coat I got really cheap at Aldi, like this one. It was scratched up and opaque looking before a gave it three coats of this. Now like new again.

I had a purpose to this one. It's meant for a typical 11-22.5 tyre size majority of buses use, but it was sometimes orbiting when I turned it by hand. I mounted an action camera to see what it was doing.
Upon playback it worked fine and stayed level. After several kilometres it now moves freely in my hand. The trip loosened it up successfully.

Here's a classic with nice aged yellowing in the lense.
This would look like heaven on a Leyland Worldmaster.
This is an old one. Manufacturing date of August 1975.

A recent fit. Hubodometer dates from 1982. I bought it because it has pure blue throughout and the old type numeral with bent out metal top and bottom. Some have a, silver panel taking up ¼ of the face. Later ones from the late 1980s on have a lensed piece of plastic over the numerals facing up slightly to make reading the mileage easier. These are probably the best hubodometers ever designed. Unfortunately Danaher Controls, owners of Veeder Root hubodometers, have cheapened the internal materials of the instrument, replacing metals with plastic and I've read customer's accounts of unreliability with these later identical looking units.

Here's what I meant with the updated numerals. The later one on left has a clear lense that slightly magnifies the digits and makes the mileage easier to read standing from above saving bending over as much. Very thoughtful upgrade.

Made up a more elegant bracket for this older hubbo with the broader mounting stud using a flat piece of aluminium. Looks great.
This one is in KM for 10:00 x 20 tyre. Dated 1975.

Maybe it's time to put it to rest, in light of the lack of replies, but mainly because I just realised it's been 10 years since I started it.

One I cut open to reset. I was given this by Westbus and have swapped faces as I like the older black one better.
I love the aged look of the yellowed polycarbonate lense.
I used JB weld to reseal it back together.

Success. Wound it to 5000 km ready to sell.
Suits 10:00 x 20 and 11R22.5 tire size IE: most buses and heavy trucks.
