Re: David Lidster photos
Looking at these bus destos they definitely look like launceston buses, GREAT photos, love them.
A driver at our depot has 46 years service and still going started when these were still in service in 1966.
I've been told some stories of these "half cabs" from the good old days, thanks for sharing.

That Dodge Fargo looks pretty good... If only this one could be restored to look like that! http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ketterin ... 1012329093
Re: David Lidster photos
Complete and not too decayed. Looks quite restorable to me. But probably not by a Tasmanian. No go in 'em.

Love the shot of Clipper & Sideloader @ Bothwell, likewise the Commer Avenger with wheels/windows missing
Re: David Lidster photos
Freak and his brother, Ted, owned the sideloader with a group of other guys (Peter Fell was one, maybe?). I think it's a Chev (will ask Freak tomorrow) and the one now at the Transport Museum? I'll update the Flickr captions.

Re: David Lidster photos
In the caption on the last photo (Flickr), that bus is in fact an OB Bedford/CAC not SB
The Oatlands Distict School shots too, is an OB with CAC body, with the Austin looking like City Bodyworks
If you look at the header and side windows, they resemble the CBW #281 > #286 SBs of MTT

They did. Changed them to forward control, all 932 of them.trainiac wrote:OB's were normal control, unless CAC did something different.
Prototype built 1946, last production CAC/OB November 1951.They'd have to date from before 1951 too...

Well, there you go. I'll change my descriptions. The wkipedia entry for the OB is incomplete.

Re: David Lidster photos
I wonder of that ex MTT Seddon 375 was used as Shop On wheels or Shop Bus around Burnie?
Re: David Lidster photos
Great Shots of the Clipper and the Sideloader!
Photo 4 is at The-Pub-With-No-Beer at Bothwell
Photo 5 is in James St (yes they have street names) Bothwell outside the Clipper drivers house 'Harold Goggins'.
With a bit of luck Timbo might be able to shed some light onto what happen to what I think was D105.

Any shot of a Clipper is a great photo. Notice both vehicles has the old 'W" pre-fix number plates before reflective number plates were introduced in 1970. I would guess that the photo was taken shortly after Green Coach Lines became Tasmanian Coach Lines.

Re: David Lidster photos
Clipper shot would've been about 1967ish, That's about the time that Charlie Wise sold out to Charlie Ayers, D105 (I think from memory) had different signage than the rest of the fleet the normal was the Royal Mail Logo on the door & drivers panel, Also had the same map on the rear air scoop as this bus had a large cut out on the back to accommodate the larger cooler & Leyland, the same as the Clipper you use as your profile pic!Bus was named Wingara. Hopefully it did'nt face the same wrath as most of the Clippers, be nice to know what happened to her as my father used to really look after her until he retired after doing Bothwell to Hobart for about 34 years in both the Clipper & the Sideloader.

Re: David Lidster photos
By my reckoning the Clipper is AF # 35. original Fleet # was D27, build date 02-54. First rego # was WXP 360. Was originally operated by Greyhound before TCL acquired it. It's original engine was a Leyland which may have been the 7.4L motor that powered the Matilda tanks.
