Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
This could of been something different this was the final layout for the north west rail link which would of killed off any plan to make the line single deck

Reported elsewhere that the first trial run as far as Sydenham occurred Tues 16/5.

So you'd think the testing needed is far less than Stage 1 where you were also testing the actual trains and control systems, which you'd think could be done in months.
But is the station infrastructure at a similar point, particularly those with OSD still going on above.

I'd imagine they could open without the OSD completed, as long as the actual station itself is completemoa999 wrote: ↑Wed May 17, 2023 4:08 pm So you'd think the testing needed is far less than Stage 1 where you were also testing the actual trains and control systems, which you'd think could be done in months.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Yeah OSD was designed so that it is completely decoupled from the stations themselves.

There is a metro train sitting on Platform 1 at Sydenham. The tail lights are on and the pantographs are up so clearly the overhead is working
Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Concourse at Central beneath platforms 12-14 is about to open with the temporary carpet lined corridor removed. Platforms 13 and 14 are largely complete with furniture and PID screens installed, just needs track to be laid and the wiring strung up.

The Central walk/metro upgrade is opening up in sections the only part of the new section that has to open now is the Chalmers street entry which will most likely open with the metro

THursday's fire in Randle St resulted in considerable water run-off flooding the new metro entrance in Chalmers St and possibly down into the station.

And I presume more than a few bricks on the roof which might have damaged HVAC equipmentboronia wrote:THursday's fire in Randle St resulted in considerable water run-off flooding the new metro entrance in Chalmers St and possibly down into the station.

The damaged buildings were some distance away from the metro building.

New concourse at Central to open on Monday morning.

Nope. Across Randal Lane from each other.boronia wrote: The damaged buildings were some distance away from the metro building.
M = New Chalmers entrance
H = Hat Factory that burnt
K = former Karaoke building next door that was also destroyed.
Stairs down from Randal Lane to the new concourse where at the southern end (indeed the plans for Hat Hotel included an additional walkway through to Randle St.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
The M entrance is a bit further north than that, address is officially 20-28, where the lift pictogram is on the map. Your K building would be directly behind it.
Google maps shows the location of the tunnel under Chalmers St at the same point.

You can see the wall collapse that impacted (literally) the metro building in my handy dandy re-host of a FRNSW video

Frankly, better hitting that than the electrical substation closer to the dental hospital.

And from the front side it definitely overlaps and those falling bricks would have partially landed on the roof, and stair entrance from Randle Lane

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
The building was reported to be occupied by some 8 homeless people, of whom 2 are still missing. It is not unknown for such people to light fires for warmth, which can get out of control.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Expect they will be covered up shortly, but at the moment there are gaps beside the escalators leading to the metro platforms that show how far down those platforms are, guess they have to be for the line to pass beneath the Eastern Suburbs line.
Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
At platform level the new 26/27 is at about the same depth as 24/25.
Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Going by the length of the escalators and the size of the shear drop down, metro platforms appear a fair bit deeper. Maybe we will have to wait until the metro opens, then we can do the climb the fire escape challenge to see which is more punishing.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
So next year when Sydney Metro to Sydenham operations begin, T4 services will stop at platforms 3 and 4 at both Erskineville and St Peters. What will happen to services that currently stop at Platforms 1 and 2?
Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
It all depends on when Bankstown line shuts down, until then you would expect T3 services to operate as is. Not sure if they will still enforce those stops on T4 services (you would hope not) until such time as that occurs.
An asset of NSW. All opinions/comments are strictly my own.
