I'd imagine the signs being outdated would make it harder too. Randwick still has signs up for the 400, 410 and 418.
Since Newcastle buses was privatised several years ago and they changed from 3 digit to 2 digit route numbers they’re all up to date around here. Although you do see some of the old 3 digit signs around the place, usually high up on poles where they were forgotten or too high to easily access.

Some of the school route ones are pretty useless though, faded beyond recognition or just missing completely. I would have thought they would be the ones relied upon more often.
