AEC Decker in Cessnock

A group of 6 were driving up to the Hunter Valley to see this ex-Hong Kong AEC Regent V decker, one of the only 3 of its kind left in the World............

Geeze what the heck she doing there it doesn`t look to good how long has this old bus been standing there what ashame seeing it like that is anything wrong with ex AD48 she looks different now compared to these earlier pictures from AEC website.

Ex - KMB A68, three of its kind left, the other one, A165 is in Oxford Bus Museum, same as this one, has a Metsec body, the other one (A19) is preserved in Hong Kong by KMB, but that one has a BACo body

I recall seeing it often up the vineyards mainly doing hen parties on the weekends.

With those HongKong plates it looks to be out of service unregistered. If the owners get tired of cutting the grassgrowing around it hopefully it will be properly preserved by a group with resources to get it undercover and maintain it properly - it would look great painted up alongside ML1 running around Sydney - we can hope that this will happen one day.......

I myself would to see this restored back original livery but the seats be another thing as these ones that are in it ain`t original to me.

There's a Youtube video of it being driven by a young bloke of Chinese descent with the owner supervising him.
You can hear the fantastic gear music as only an AEC /Wilson combo can deliver.

I think Dave is really emphasising how ugly it is which i think as well.Surely he doesn't hold such ghastly sentiments to what is ,after all,an AEC Regent V,the updated version of the III!

I think Dave Wilson will be won over once he hears it going!

Only kidding- I rode them exensively in HK in 1982 and thought they were extraordinary. What was really amazing was how many people could be swallowed up by these Regent V buses at a single sitting. The HK Chinese (are) were so disciplined to do the right thing that 80 people could load in a few minutes. It is a stark memory of those days. Try that in Sydeney. Put it back in Kowloon colours and it will be a treasure

From memory the KMB Daimler looked very similar to that AEC, except for the grill.
Need to look for my other KMB photos.
I would like to see it restored
From memory AD4860 had green coloured fibre glass seating.

AEC Decker in Cessnock as the title says, but AEC Decker was expecting an ex Sydney DGT AEC Decker.
He was pleasantly surprised to see it is a Regent V and well worth preserving, but then again AEC Decker is biased towards the preservation of any AEC Decker.

Daimlers weren't as big from what I can remember.

Daimler did make 34ft buses for KMB after AEC supplying 210 Regent Vs. There were 220 34ft CVG6 supplied to KMB and they were 4cm longer than the AEC and 2 extra standee

Yes it was from memory.

A long time ago, I was told by the blokes who imported AD4860 that they could have got a KMB Daimler for the same deal as the AEC, but opted for the AEC as AEC parts were much easier to get in Australia and their mechanic prefered to work on AEC stuff.

As the title does not say "An AEC Decker in Cessnock" Boronia was expecting a picture of this mysterious 3rd person poster, out of his home territory.

So going by the pic it could have been owned by Jayes, Jayes was a large travel agency
with there own Coaches in Newcastle,The coach side was taken over by Great lakes,
now part of Busways.
