[NSW] Fearne's of Wagga Wagga in the 60's. #1

Post by Red and Cream »

It has been great over the past few weeks to see the photos of the of the large numbers of Fearne's buses being returned to Sydney for preservation by members of this board and to see their immaculate condition which their former owner kept them in.

In about 1966 i toured NSW photographing large numbers of country operators and Fearne was one of them and as you can judge by the following photos they were just as well maintained then.

I have selected just a small number of the Fearne photos to show the diversity of buses they had at that time. I only wish i had the opportunity then to save some of those vehicles as has been with todays buses. I hope you find some interest in the photos.

MO 3524 Reo(Bedford motor) Star Bros. of 4/48 at Harden.
I feel a bit guilty about showing this photo as the two driver/mechanics shown in this photo moved quite a few buses around at the Harden depot for me and i promised to send them this photo as a thank you but as my photos were usually printed a long time after i took them i did not get around to it. I believe one of the chaps name was L.C.Fairhall.

MO 3028 GMC(Bedford) MBA? 6/52 at Harden.

What a time warp Red and Cream  . The REO and the GMC look in brand new condition, but were probably around 20 years old when the photos were taken.

Apart from the rubbered in windscreens, that Star Bros REO is a handsome vehicle. Is it a Properts REO to its left?

Wow Red and Cream, some of these buses, i was a kid and remember seeing them getting about.
Back in "Berry St" with the big dirt yard out the back filled with yellow (well sort of yellow) with red stripe buses. I used to be amazed by how many they had even parked in Forsyth st.
The late 70's they had so many they had to move. Taughtons went bust and Gary scored the current yard. Now we have so many we have a 2nd yard holding 16 buses or so.
he cleans up after everyone that uses a bus.

I couldn't see any of the photos alluded to in this post. Was this the Bedford? Can anyone identify this old Watts Bros bodied Bedford?
