only decent part of them was no syncro  a singer sewing machine motor would have more power even a donkey would have been better only problem would be the howling brakes would scare the poor beast & you'd never stop unless it dropped dead from fright

I'd rather be on the dole than drive a Bedford & these were Japanese Bedfords

Come on Doc, Bedfords are fun to drive, they steer where they want to go and stop when they want to stop. Plus they need written notice to cross an intersection. But they were cheap and reliable. Cheers

I drove a Hino coach (can't recall what model) in the late 1970s. Have to agree with all the above comments about lack of power, etc.

Its worst failing was the wide ratios in the gearbox. Each change up dropped almost 1000 rpm. Get it up to peak revs/power in one gear; then change and lose it all. Barely passable on the flat, if you were going up even a slight grade you had no hope of changing gears. A two speed diff might have helped things a bit.

Throughout the movie I swear it's possible to hear the Hino engine idling or running from time to time. The engine sounds a lot like the 7 litre EH700 used in AK176/RK176 Hinos etc. Could it be?
