Once upon a time......some RFW coaches

Post by Centralian »

There have been a few posts and discussions recently regarding RFW. I had a quick shuffle through my photos and came across these images. I was working briefly at John A Gilbert in Fairfield at the time at least one of the RFW's was delivered to Entrance Red. I remember one of the greatest mechanical sounds I had heard to that time was the RFW coming down Lisbon St and putting its exhaust brakes on. For their time, those coaches were IT. I have a few slides of those deliveries still to be scanned and will post in the future. Here are a few RFW's in different liveries. Enjoy:

I found this recently in Hervey Bay. From what I could see through the fence it appears to be, (Could be wrong), an RFW similar to 2 of those that Red Bus operated at one stage.

Unfortunately there was no one at the house it was parked at to ask about it or get body details.

Anyone have a clue?

A 903 V8 Cummins, that's a lot of horsepower in a bus or coach.

Not really mate, they were lucky to make 320 horses with a turbo. When you see coaches today with 500 hp in the back end it's a little bit more get up and go!

So I see Ansett Pioneer were responsible for those gigantic bullbars. Hills Highway Tours TV 809 seems to have missed out on one.

Kings coach was ex Kogarah Coachlines
Metro West went to Cairns Karumba Coaches - today's location ?????
TV809 went to Bankstown - Freedom Coaches

There is one Ansiar body with the Air Cond in the centre of the roof, Chassis # GMB62117 Would anybody know of it's location as it was the first Ansett unit built. Camel back chassis not a space frame chassis
