Sunshine Coast Light Rail
Reading in the paper a taskforce team has been set up by the sunshine coast council to work on providing the Sunny coast with light rail
This is in combination with the heavy rail due to start after 2026

No, it was all pre-existing.Newcastle Flyer wrote:Nuh, surely this has nooooothing to do with tomorrow?? Nuh surely not
The bureaucrats don't care less about this proposal, and neither does the ALP or LNP, because its all pie in the sky stuff at the moment. Its being pushed by council, a local architect and some business guys.
They could do a lot more with buses before wasting their money.
Elvis has left the building!

Or events later next month perhaps?
Re: Sunshine Coast Light Rail
I would think the SC Council working with (a likely) LNP government about fast tracking the CoastConnect busway and upgrading some busier less frequent services from every 30 to every 15 mins (616, 620) would be a better priority than wasting all the money on LR system studies.
A bit of steam ironing on a few routes would help as well. 610, 630/631 (eg converting the 631 to a half-hourly local route, whilst 630 becomes the steam ironed Link route).

Re: Sunshine Coast Light Rail
Council elections in QLD always occur in March in an Olympic year. They are equal 4 year terms and vote usually around the 23rd of March. The only reason it was pushed back was because Anna Bligh called an election too close to what would of been the council elections. It would be nice if all local/state/fed elections were on the same day every 4 years so I only have to waste my time once every 4 years.

Re: Sunshine Coast Light Rail
They should look at a dedicated BUS roadway corodor from Beerwah to Moorchydore following the proposed railway route with say 4 -6 buses meeting each train, with each bus expressing to different suburb loops eg. Pelican Waters , Caloundra ,Kawana and Maroochydore etc untill the patronage is up to heavy train levels. Cheaper to build and run with passenger convience - less travel time to - from Beerwah than running all over the place with traffic eg Nicklin Way
Re: Sunshine Coast Light Rail
I hear what you are saying but surely the first thing is just running the buses.Landseer wrote:They should look at a dedicated BUS roadway corodor from Beerwah to Moorchydore following the proposed railway route with say 4 -6 buses meeting each train, with each bus expressing to different suburb loops eg. Not sure that traffic congestion off the Bruce justifies the bus road?
Re: Sunshine Coast Light Rail
The cheapest thing in regards to Bus Priority from the Sunshine Coast Line is to put bus lanes on Steve Irwin Way from Landsborough and transit lanes on Caloundra Road. The current routes don't change apart from a increase of connecting services from Rail post Landsborough duplication. There are the hubs at University (through 615), Caloundra Bus Station (through 605) or Sunshine Plaza (615 terminus) for connecting services.
