Gold Coast tram extension to airport : Phase 4

Post by rtt_rules »

I think the current Qld govt is looking for an excuse to cancel funding for the Gold Coast tram extension to the airport.

This has a bit of a pro tram debate

For those not familiar with G:link it and other rail based PT projects in the past often have an unusal funding arrangement compared to most other states in that the local council is also throwing money at the project along with state and Feds. (Also how the Cleveland line was fully reopened).

The Qld govt seems hell bent on building half arsed rail projects such as it went to the election saying it would build the SC rail line which it has promised at every election for the last 25 years, yet its now confirmed it wil stop short by 13 km of the airport and have a bus link. Likely because it doesn't have the time and resources to complete it before the Olypmics. Some experts claim this is better as buses are more inclusive along the corridor however this is the opposite that is currently being done on the GC line with fill in stations being built.

However the state govt doesn't seem to be moved to consider extension of the GC line as an alternative to the GC LR extension to the airport. So by 2032 Qld will have three HR/LR lines all stopping short by around 12 - 13 km of two significant airport.
