The Sports Thread
Thought I create a thread about discussing all things sport
For me, I’m excited to see tennis player Roger Federer once again return to the Australian Open next year. I wonder if he perhaps may win yet another Grand Slam to add to his other 20 grand slams (it may be still possible, especially if he competes at Wimbledon next year, where he was won most of his slams from).

This is a pretty good idea.
On that note to leave my first two cents in, briefly on the Collingwood side of footy, we won't have Beamsy for some time as he steps back to focus on his mental health issues. Much respect to him.
Also, absolutely weak from AFL QLD wanting to introduce penalties for junior footy teams winning by massive margins.

Volgren all day, every day.
Dear T80; If the decker's not a Volgren, I'm not interested.
Fairfield is Fairfield; not 'Western Sydney', nor 'South West Sydney.'

Nice to see the Aussies notch up another win in the cricket, with an easy win over New Zealand in Perth.

Reminds of the Simpsons episode where Bart's demoted to a lower grade. And at some point, the teacher says 'Yay! Everyone's a winner".BanksfielderIdiot823 wrote:Yep.TA3001 wrote:Is there any further info on this?
It sounds like a footy version of political correctness to me.
Re: The Sports Thread
With the Australian Open just around the corner, I’m excited to see the tennis players go head to head once again. Hope the weather will be good for the players (as it hasn’t been earlier in the week causing some players to retire due to health problems)
Will be interesting to see who will win the grand slam this year. I suspect Djokovic might win again the men’s championship

I'll be surprised if the winning car is a car that is built and raced by any of the mid field teams and not a car from one of the big 3 teamsMotorOmnibus8562 wrote:Will be interesting to see who will win the F1 Australian Grand Prix this year.....

Re: The Sports Thread
US Open updates (first grand slam to round during COVID)
- Naomi Osaka wins US open for the 2nd time (Women’s singles)
- Dominic Thiem wins US open AND his first grand slam. Good on him
Now the next tournament is Rome, the Italian open
I reckon Djokovic will want to win this one given his disqualification at the US open R16

Re: The Sports Thread
Brisbane. Four points one day, two points the next.
The Lions and Broncos went down in a Grand Final last weekend…
- to a club in black and white
- to a club that finished on top of the ladder
- to the ‘home team’ that came back from behind
- by less than a goal and try respectively
- in a match that proved to be a fierce and freakishly close contest
- during an unseasonably hot day in the host city
At the hands of my beloved Collingwood Magpies and of a relentless Penrith Panthers.

Melbourne Cup too. Yet another pointless public holiday (the AFL Grand Final being the other) with absolutely nothing to do, unless you like roaming the packed aisles of the supermarket as every other person went there because nothing else is open.
Also the usual drunken far quits in their ridiculous 1930s outfits and stylised toilet paper hats, even the heroin addicts hanging around Croydon station are more palatable.

3AW's Neil Mitchell admitting he's recently accepted the fact that AFL is a national competition despite the "over-emphasis" of the competition being national.
Whatever the hell that means.

Looks like boundary lines in footy are nothing more than a decoration or a suggestion these days.

Who do you think will take home the Men's Singles title at the 2025 Australian Open?
Re: The Sports Thread
Any cricket fans here? Who will win the BBL final today? Hurricanes or Thunder?
Re: The Sports Thread
I am thrilled to be attending my first-ever F1 race this weekend and cannot wait for the action to begin. It is fantastic to see the Australian Grand Prix reclaim its spot as the season opener, adding an extra layer of excitement to an already thrilling event. The first race of the season always brings surprises, and experiencing it live for the first time makes it even more special for me.

Commiserations to Carlton supporters, after being 41 points up, Richmond ended up winning by 13 points.
Hawks are up against Essendon tonight.
Will be interesting to see how Collingwood play against Port Adelaide on a warm night here in Melbourne.
