Re: Rare and interesting car sightings

Well, after I was beginning to think that there weren't any unusual or interesting cars around any more, I've seen two in the space of two days.

Yesterday I was walking the Old Northern Road to Baulkham Hills shops and saw a light grey Morris Minor heading in the direction of Castle Hill. It was the model with the plain metal grille and a two piece windscreen.

Then today, around lunchtime, I was waiting to cross the road at Baulkham Hills shops (I was going to check and see if Vinnies had any nice clothes for me, but that's another story) when I saw what, from a distance looked like a bright orange 1970s Ford Falcon (in my defence I should add that I wasn't wearing my glasses at the time) but as it went past I realised it was a Leyland P76. It's been quite some time since i've seen one of them.

I've seen a mustard yellow P76 a couple of different times at West Gosford lately. Also another with a fancy black paint job not too long ago.
Found a red one for sale at $13k in a gumtree ad from a Melbourne seller. Was seriously considering.

Valiant in Ettalong with historic plates the other day.

I'm in Canberra at the moment and on the way down I saw a shiny orange red old style Mini travelling south on a car trailer. When I stopped at Goulburn for a break, I parked just off Auburn Street and there was a Ford Lotus Cortina parked on the other side of the road next to the court house.

Gosford Photo

Snapped this at Hungry Jacks West Gosford last Saturday. Immaculately presented and it is an XB. They're was shrubbery at the front, preventing a decent shot.
I like the rear on these the most. I can see where the XC got it's inspiration for it's taillights.

Mark IV Cortina is more to my tastes. The first one is too old fashioned looking.

I saw one on the Windsor Road at Northmead yesterday. Didn't get a good look at it because it was in heavy traffic and I was going the other way. It was a rather dull shade of greyish brown. From what I saw it seemed to be inn good condition.

I don't understand how on hell this got lost and ended up here as a standalone post in another section entirely when the intent was to post in rare and interesting cars thread in the "bunched up" room (a play on the term for buses bunching up).

Moderator Note: Refer to Swift's post above from September 9 featuring the black Falcon coupe. Post moved from another section.

I was walking through the passageway that separates the Sydney Hilton from the Galeries Victoria this morning and among the cars parked there was a beautifully kept dark red (or at least it looked dark red in the dim light) Jensen Interceptor. Not the sort of thing that you see every day.....

There was one of those Italian super expensive sports cars there too (a mid blue rather than red one though). I think it was a Lamborghini. Why someone would pay that sort of money for something that ugly which looks like it would be uncomfortable to sit in into the bargain, I just can't understand.

Must be the day for old Holden utes. Driving along the Old Northern Road near Dural, I saw a nice clean and shiny light green FJ ute heading in the other direction and when I got to Galston shops, there was a dark red, slightly scruffy looking FX ute in the car park.

Now that I look at the photo I took, it does look mildly modified, so maybe it is supposed to have a dull weathered look......

It looks like Cummins diesel would fit under there. The body would need some serious bracing.

I was in Bowral today and saw one of those old military Jeeps like the ones you see in war movies. Left hand drive, painted in army green and with it's canvas top flapping alarmingly as it travelled along the Illawarra Highway. I was surprised how small it looked.

Isn't it also supposed to compensate for shortcomings in other areas?

I have seen many Lamborghini's being driven aggressively by entitled, rich young men, or on the back of a tow truck.
About 4 years ago, I went for a ride in a Lamborghini (birthday gift), and you really had to be a bit of a contortionist getting in and out of it. It was a 2012 Gallardo from memory.

They are always obviously speeding and taking off too quick etc. They must attract cops attention.

One passed me at some point during the last year doing at least 160km/h in what was barely an 80 zone on the freeway... So fast it was a case of blink, and you'd miss it.

The only sports car I've been in was a Lotus Elise and you're practically sitting on the ground. It wasn't
particularly hard to get in and out of from memory and felt very well seated once inside. I was surprised how well it rode. It was firm but compliant without feeling crashy over bumps. It went around corners very sure footed. A fun experience.

Hopefully it will miss the other cars in its path too.

Germany is the only place where you can really enjoy these cars.
Australia's speed limits are far too low in a country that needs higher permissible speeds more than most.
If only Australians had far better lane discipline.
