Rail and private operator observations 2023

Post by pasha241 »

Queensland bus-makers urged to get on board electric revolution

there are new electric bus for Greater Brisbane operator

Transdev ordered 17 NEW Electric-Bus with Volvo BZL chassis and Optimus body.
Clark Logan ordered 10 NEW Electric-Bus with Bustech ZDI body.

interesting that will these 17 new electric bus will run on specific route (Like BYD Volgren at Kinetic gold coast) (Likely route 250 and 270) or just run on any TD route

I also wonder when will new electric bus deliver for Brisbane Transport as there are no new delivery buses for more than a year while other operator already order more electric bus.

Downer named as preferred supplier to deliver $7 billion train program

So now we have Next Generation Trains following on from New Generation Rollingstock. One day politicians will realise the folly of incorporating 'New' into titles as everything new eventually becomes old.

Apparently this procurement comes in at four times the cost of W.A.'s home-grown (there is a high local content requirement, so parentheses not necessary) trains. Source: https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/ ... -180068405

Kinetic Cairns bus 2622 has had it's headlights replaced with LEDs. Not sure if this is the first 2nd gen Bustech to have this replacement but they definitely are significantly more brighter than the standard halogen lights.

Just follow other states' leads and give each series a name, and ditch the acronyms. NSW's NIFs are known as Mariyungs, etc.

Locals invited to shape Townsville station upgrade

https://www.railexpress.com.au/locals-i ... n-upgrade/

Locals have been invited to have their say on the new multi-million-dollar upgrade to Townsville railway station in Queensland, with community consultation starting next week.

Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said the consultation sessions were a great opportunity for the community to offer their views on what they would like to see delivered as part of the upgrade.

“Townsville railway station is a major transport hub in our city, with close to 32,000 people moving through the station each year,” he said.

“Community consultation will mark the start of a $1 million feasibility study to improve our bustling station.”

Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said the upgrade would deliver a refurbished station precinct on the existing site, with a range of new facilities.

“Our community will be able to take advantage of new station facilities including a customer lounge and additional shelters, as well as accessibility features like priority platform seating and customer information screens,” he said.

“Upgrades to station car park will also be delivered along with a drop-off zone that integrates with other public transport for improved connections to surrounding areas.”

Member for Mundingburra Les Walker encouraged people to have their say.

“The number of passengers on our trains is increasing so it’s important stations like Townsville keep pace with that growth,” he said.

Transport and Main Roads minister Mark Bailey said the Townsville upgrade was one of many regional rail investments across the state.

“The Townsville upgrade is part of an ongoing investment of more than $63 million over four years to upgrade priority stations across the regional network including Maryborough West and Rockhampton,” he said.

“Consultations on station upgrades will also kick off in Bundaberg and Cairns this year.”

Queensland Rail Acting Head of Regional Scott Cornish said this first stage of consultation would help inform the concept designs.

“Customers can complete a short survey on Queensland Rail’s website from 7am Monday, March 20, to 5pm Friday, March 31, or at the station where they can scan a QR code to provide feedback,” he said.

“Face-to face engagement sessions at the station will be held from 12pm-3pm on Wednesday, March 22, and Wednesday, March 29, and from 1pm-3pm on Friday, March 31.

“Once the initial consultation has closed, the project team will focus on delivering concept designs for the community to view and provide further feedback on.”

For more information, customers can visit the website here, call the project team on 1800 722 203 or email stationsupgrade@qr.com.au

The Townsville station design proposal includes an upgraded station building featuring a customer lounge with improved seating, tables and air-conditioning, breakout areas with device charging stations, and an integrated luggage check-in facility.

Other proposed upgrades include refreshed platform seating, enhanced signage, service information screens, public announcement systems and a new emergency help system, significantly improving the customer experience.

Accessibility improvements will include the installation of tactile ground indicators, handrails where required, variable desk height at the luggage check in desks and new accessible toilets.

New accessible car parking will also be delivered along with a drop-off zone that integrates with other public transport providers.
Wow. $1 million "feasibility study" for 10 trains per week and average 100 passengers per day?

Seems that the Go Noosa loop route 065 is being operated by Kinetic now, but with none of the standard fleet. Instead, all of this Easter's runs have been handled by Optare Solo 12GCs; the one that was on all of tonight had rego 308 XTT and a non-standard fleet number of 12.

Some operators are starting to get new Smart Ticketing go card readers as of last week; quite a few TBS as well as most (all?) Kangaroo Bus Lines buses have them, complete with a new DCU based on the Handheld (no, really, that's the manufacturer's name) Algiz 8X... running the same OS as the previous TREQ-based ones.

Hornibrook has recently had a few Volvo BZL’s delivered which will replace the whole fleet in the North Lakes depot, 2 of these have been in service since Monday and there will be a total of 16 when all are delivered. Here is some pictures of 171 I took yesterday on a 686 service!

I filmed it for YouTube here: https://youtu.be/e_f6kClrkgQ

Observed Transdev 042, an electric bus (likely a BZL) on Granard Road not in service today. I haven't seen any fleet lists for Transdev's new buses; do we know how long it's been in service for?

actually transdev EV bus is in service since 2nd May (Same day as HBL EV bus debut). There also in the news around February that Transdev will recieve BZL (before EV of Spring hill loop). Also i hear that some of BYD transdev NSW bus will transfer to Transdev QLD as transdev lost majority of new tender in there and some bus is own by Trandev.

Is it just me or are Bus QLD's 2009 Scanias in poor condition for their age (versus, say, a BCC MAN 18.310 diesel)? 58 WBC not only has an ancient-looking NCBC Downtown City Bus interior, but also has quite a few cracks in the floor that reflect poorly on their condition.

i think that just based on how their maintance their bus. ( I feel a lot of Bus QLD Ipswich bus that over 10 years is in poor condition). Because if i compare with Scania Hornibrook (some of the bus is older than 2009) still way better condition even than WBC bus. Even if i compare with other Bus QLD PRT. PRT is in way better than condition than WBC bus.

More likely a Northcoast issue as the ones in Tasmania are also having issues.

I think the NCBC ones were a cheaper quality than the CB60's they have. They did bump up maintenance and presentation about 4-5 years ago, not sure how that's going of present.

Three of them (18,40 & 86) have already been moved to schools with the remainder likely to be moved to schools by 2025.
