Trailerbus
Re: Trailerbus
With electric assist bikes able to easily reach any station the need is for default 30 km/h safe roads and single deck carriages with Trailerbuses only used where there is no rail.
Many people would then use an electric assisted bike on safe roads rather than having a second car.

Re: Trailerbus
It would be possible to have a ten metre single deck carriage on a bogie but then I thought that if it was full length with plenty of seats as well then women who may be scared at night may ride in it with the guard.

Re: Trailerbus
From what I have read electric scooters are more dangerous then electric assisted bikes due to their smaller wheels but as NSW is intending to trial them perhaps they could be rented on a weekly basis so they are charged at home and not left laying around.
Also if everybody using a 30 km/h safe road has to leave a 2m gap when overtaking there would never be the accicents that occur an a shared path.

Re: Trailerbus
I have seen many shared paths worldwide on You Tube and I consider them dangerous as people cannot leave a 2m gap when overtaking.
It would be much cheaper to have a 30 km/h limit on backroads to allow for the 2m gap.
As most car drivers have kids they would not mind spending an extra 30 seconds to get to a signposted road so kids can ride to school in safety.
30 km/h safety roads would also keep things like this Tuk Tuk off the signposted road https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS7ne-NnkVI&t=2s

I hear you mate as we are about the only country in the world that has the hat rule.
It is funny that in Canberra they have given up on the drug war and people in the future can have personal responsibility where bikes you cannot.

After reading Jorge https://havanatimes.org/diaries/jorge/h ... ine-buses/
Perhaps Cuba would allow the Trailerbus https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... top-button as a great investment opportunity for Australian trailer/bus builders so they can be first in the world for once?
I have great sympathy for Cubans being stuck between the mafia then communists and have watched this documentary twice

Re: Trailerbus
Nice little article about trailer buses in Australia on the back page of January Australian Bus for you eddy.
Re: Trailerbus
Very interesting I would like to see it.
This is what I emailed to the Cuban Ministry of Transport
In Australia I cannot get permission to build a new type of Trailerbus https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... top-button
But perhaps your people may allow it to be trialled as it can take 150 passengers plus bicycles?
PS
The email was rejected so I may have to contact them another way perhaps.

Re: Trailerbus
I tried to post my Trailerbus design to Cuba ministry of transport as they would prefer trailerbuses over the Russian ones that catch fire (three seperate incidents in one day killing many) but the post office does not go there probobly as most letters and parcels never arrive.
So if anyone is going there please contact me.
Thanks Eddy.

Evidently America has a big problem with Cuba and there is almost nothing you can send there but Australia has a Cuban embessy at Canberra so I sent them an email and it will be interesting if they want to try it as they are not as proud as us Aussies.eddy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 2:35 pm I tried to post my Trailerbus design to Cuba ministry of transport as they would prefer trailerbuses over the Russian ones that catch fire (three seperate incidents in one day killing many) but the post office does not go there probobly as most letters and parcels never arrive.

Re: Trailerbus
I think many people wouldn't want to ride trailer buses because they probably don't want to feel like cattle
Re: Trailerbus
Most people would ride up top with big seats and a good view so i doubt they would feel like cattle rather like kings.

Went around to the Cuban embassy at Canberra today and even they could not send my letter to Cuba.
She said she was afraid of technology transfer so I explained that my Trailerbus design is just because my hobby is transport of people and freight but she still said no.

Re: Trailerbus
Has there ever been an accident with a trailerbus or was it just a way to get rid of the conductor?

Re: Trailerbus
This is the email I sent to HVNR today.
I was under the impression that NSW banned Trailerbuses due to safety concerns but have not been able to find one instance of an accident so I think it was just a way to get rid of the conductor.
With cameras, speed limiting, ABS, stability control, Opal card and air brakes I see absolutely no problem with a DD Trailerbus which can take 150 people plus bikes, mobility scooters and strollers on the lower deck and big seats up the safety stairs.
Having driven buses and semitrailers I know from experience that a trailer with a legal 3.7m rear overhang can go anywhere a 12.5m rigid bus can.

Re: Trailerbus
Tried to ask NSW why trailerbuses are banned in Australia with this email today but could not find their email address so sent one to the productivity commission.
Hi
Brooke from HVNR said trailerbuses are illegal and perhaps you could explain why?

Re: Trailerbus
Can anyone remember when it was illegal to tow a dog trailer that weighed more than the truck in NSW
I remember a guy complaining to me that he was not allowed to use a dog trailer that weighed the same as his truck in the 70's

Re: Trailerbus
This is what I put on another forum regarding the Cesssnock line.
Trailerbuses would only cost $500,000 each and could leave every 15 minutes for Newcastle with big seats with a good view up top and able to take electric bikes, mobility scooters and strollers on the lower deck for use to the final destination.
With auto prime movers, Opal cards, cameras, speed limiting, ABS, stability control, air brakes and a fixed turntable they should be made legal and bang for the buck is what we need to reduce inflation.

Re: Trailerbus
You can buy 10 Trailerbuses with a better and more frequent service for 5% of what running a train to Cessnock would cost on his figures.
NSW has doubled the size of trucks for the same reason.
