Moral of the story is that the fleet list is not necessarily 100% accurate, Fairly sure they were freshly down when reported in late 2018. While it doesn't show the bus in full, did find a picture of 3778 with some of the differences. The lack of a State Transit logo beneath the Transit Systems one is a giveaway the repaint happened post the handover.Fleet Lists wrote: ↑The fleet list shows them both as TfNSW with nothing about any differences. BUT 3783 shows the repaint taking place with STA but with a date after it went to TSA - strange.

So much for the stock reply "check the fleetlists".

I guess it's a two-way street. First only trusted or verified information can be put up, then if there are discrepancies, people need to report it via the appropriate channels (and in some instances there could be a bit more gratitude shown when someone offers updates or corrections to the lists!).

The fleet lists are by and large accurate, the odd error will always slip through. Those who maintain the lists do so on a volunteer basis. We really should be just saying thank you for their efforts rather than sniping at the odd error.

Does any one know any rego's of the buses that went to Bourke ?
Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Noticed a few of Willoughby's Scanias have had their shift number displays removed. With many private school services wrapping up this week these may not be long for this world.

Busways is removing the shift runplates from all of their vehicles, so I wouldn't take their removal as the harbinger of death for the L113s at M.

It will continue to be a "depot of Scanias" as has been the case for a long time.

So they are. With drivers presumably given the bus number as part of their riding instructions and inspectors with clipboards checking for on-time running replaced by GPS, probably are a relic of the past.J_Busworth wrote: ↑Busways is removing the shift runplates from all of their vehicles, so I wouldn't take their removal as the harbinger of death for the L113s at M.

I dont think Busways has ever used them in other regions they have operated in the past or are operating now.

There is still a place for run plates.
It’s not improbable for say three 501s to turn up at the outbound relief point mid afternoon peak, with all three being due for relief.
How is the relief driver to know which of the three buses is his?
The drivers journals apparently have the route number and run number on them making it a simple exercise for the relief driver to determine which bus is his.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Barring difficulties like a breakdown necessitating a bus swap, or a run being covered by another driver, why not just give the relieving driver the fleet number of the bus they'll be swapping into? Even if a bus has 'seen' multiple drivers relieved throughout the day, I'm sure it wouldn't be a completely impossible task to track a bus through different shifts & drivers...

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Not completely impossible, just a fair bit more complicated than just having a simple run plate.
There’s no need for drivers to be checking what bus fleet number they are looking for each day.
It’s simply on their journal as a run number.

If they are taking a bus fresh from the depot, the drivers would have to look for a bus number.
Looking for a bus number out on the road should be no different than looking for a run plate?

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
These days, bus allocations are often done in advance and shown either during an electronic sign on process or on a departure board; as long as any bus swaps are noted in the system this would theoretically work the same for a relief shift.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Bear in mind that at a busy depot such as Ryde there could easily have been a couple of hundred bus allocations since the bus being relieved was originally allocated.
So, given that there could well be a staff bus for a relief allocated say every five minutes, the shed driver would be expected to trawl through all those allocations looking for a bus number.
It would almost be a full time job.
All that nonsense just so a driver doesn’t need to flip over a couple of plastic numbers before he leaves the depot.

So it's still a paper allocation system, with no electronic record of allocations, and no digital sign-on process? Admittedly, I consider such a system does create a degree of "double handling" but it seems to be gaining popularity nonetheless.stajourneyman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 5:20 pm It would almost be a full time job.

My point was, if the allocations are handled digitally, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch for the software to know which shift relieves which and thus communicate the bus a driver is to relieve via an allocations screen or during an electronic sign-on.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
Busways who took over the region concerned, have never used run numbers in the regions they have operated previously. Obviously they have a system that works for them and should not have to operate their bus allocations the same way the STA did. There is absolutely NOTHING regressive about this.

Re: NSW Bus Observations 2022
I'm sure Busways would have consulted with the union reps. Had they kicked up a stink, the run plates probably would have remained in place. Presumably drivers are given the bus number with their roster and this is all they need. GPS tracking made them somewhat redundant.

Re: State Transit / Transit Systems Ansair Orana Retirement
When I was a driver I didn't care for them much (especially when Willoughby cut their governors back to ridiculous levels) but now have high regard for them as they're (normally) very powerful and aged incredibly well over time like Tangaras. Still think they rattle too much, feel awfully plasticky in the driver's cab and have an awful ride quality -Volvo B10BLEs walk all over them in ride comfort and less rattles.idontknow556 wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 10:24 pm With the first CD Elements entering service at Kingsgrove
