Punchbowl Buses

Post by caduceus »

I found these photos on my phone. They are of interest as all buses will now look alike.
Punchbowl has been so recognisable we must keep their livery alive.

It looks like most of these pics are not even yours. May we have a please explain to why other board members photos are on this thread (I assume without their permission)

Hello Caduceus,

Many thanks for sharing. Terrific photos. Yes, a great livery and sadly, all will be a part of history soon along with three digit enamel number plates. Great history disappearing in front of our eyes mate. We may have to get our old mates the Punchbowl Tiger Cub and Bus Riders some medication if they see these photos.

BTW. Caduceus, am showing my age but he was a great Trotter/Pacer back in the 60's. Harold Park Trots - another piece of history now gone. Still remember the collection of coloured private buses in the lay over area opposite the Harold Park Hotel late on Friday nights. Also recall settling times late Friday evening in the old shed behind the pub as well. Story for another day.
Kind Regards, m/o 5537

It is rare to see Punchbowl Volgren with nut guard, they were removed not long after in service and fitted with wheel nuts lock

The Holden ute is ruined by 12 slotter rims. They are a Ford trademark.

The Holden ute was great restoration at the time - looked really good in the flesh complete with twelve slotter wheels,Punchbowl Cream livery and grab rails made from bus handrails.

Who cares about the twelve slotters being put on a Holden!!

The Ford looks smart with those factory steel rims on. Like the number plate too. Does anyone know if the Kingswood had similar plates?
Good selection of Punchbowl's final buses in their livery. I was lucky enough to go on my only ride on a Punchie bus ten years ago on one of their Tigers that had an Allison auto fitted!! :!:
EDIT: I rode one of their Scanias on another occasion. (L113 I think).

Were the Tigies good at long distance work over Detroit motive power?

With vehicles like 4 year old m/o 5038 and to a lesser extent the two Hinos getting about, I think the PBC colours will be around for a while yet

Of course they are basically charter vehicles so I guess they will always have some charter buses in the red and cream.

The charter vehicles will remain in Red and Cream as they are not part of Region 5 contracted operations.

Of the remaining Red and Cream vehicles currently working as part of Region 5,they will either run in Red and Cream until replaced OR receive TfNSW livery as has been the case in recent times where m/o 408 and m/o 4335 have received TfNSW livery.

Obviously different story and circumstances at PBC Goulburn where all 22 fleet vehicles are now in Red and Cream.

I thought they had allowed the Tnsw livery programme fall out of favour by now. Chances are, the remaining PBC coloured buses running in region 5 will remain so until they are retired.

It does not appear to have fallen out of favour yet with Punchbowl as the recent repainting of two more buses shows.

That is now six years ago and now the previously mentioned m/o 5038 and
m/o 809 Scania L113CRL YS4LC4X2B01830347 Austral Pacific 7828181 4/98 B49F Punchbowl
Reg 27/6/16, ex m/o 7241; Refronted with a PMC "Metro 90" lower front by 5/16 by Wales, Smithfield after an accident 23/11/15,
are the only two buses still in Punchbowl livery.

What I also miss are their registrations back to three digit registrations which are now knocked back by Transport for NSW since 2020. m/o 5437 shows in the fleet list as being reregd m/o 737 that year and then back to m/o 5437 - apparently knocked back by Transport for NSW.

I do hope that Punchbowl will still be around when the latest new contracts are announced.

Philistines. Not so much in recent times, but many operators used to cherish their three digit plates with them passing from generation to generation.

Might be a big ask against the multinationals, but at least they will live on in Goulburn.
