Interesting to see it has a one piece windscreen.

Rather surprising the difference they make - both to visibility, and the maintenance budget (it is alleged they're rather more expensive to replace).

That is pretty much standard for a CR228L except for Punchbowl Bus Co which has either ordered or converted their CR228L's with split windscreen.

8832 Mo with PBC Goulburn wich is a Punchbowl Bus Co appears to be an exception to this possibly because it was a demonstrator before it was acquired by PBC Goulburn. Punchbowl only has two other CR228L's in the fleet m/o 9286 and m/o 9287 both Volvo's.

Other Volvo's in the fleet are known to have been converted to split windscreens including m/o 9288.

There is quite a discussion on this at viewtopic.php?p=624750&hilit=Punchbowl+ ... en#p624750

So what do they do, sell off the one piece job? I'd have thought they'd do it by attrition. Only convert after the original gets damaged.

9286 and 9287 didn’t receive any sort of conversion; they were ordered with the split flat windscreens by Punchbowl, and Volgren built them accordingly. Whether any CR221 to CR228L body came with the standard front or the “CR221L-style” set-piece around the top greatly depended on whether the operator ordered the buses with a flat windscreen or not. If they did, then the set-piece is there. If they didn’t, then they get the regular front.

Down in Footscray, just about every single low-entry Volgren at Sita Transit (everything that isn’t an Optimus) has been ordered with the flat windscreens, and have therefore received the set-piece fronts. Crossley’s went down this same road with CR221L m/o 7821 (compare that with the other CR221Ls at Transdev)

Transit Plus in SA ordered their CR228Ls all with split windscreens too.

According to an old order contract I’ve seen, the type of windscreen was entirely the choice of the operator (single piece or 2 piece). Apparently the CR221 could be ordered with a “4 piece flat windscreen”, although I’ve never seen/noticed an example of this.

I think the single piece windscreen looks "try hard to appear modern" and is less practical for an urban bus should it need replacement.
Australia has this fixation on state of the art aesthetics, without the substance.
America is the opposite. They have no problem keeping the same style if it's still fit for purpose.
