Electric bikes etc.

Post by eddy »

As cars have to keep clear of bikes so also should any sort of bike and scooters have to keep a good distance from pedestrians regardless if it is electric or not.

This will allow electric bikes and scooters while stopping bikes of any sort flying past us oldies.

I am 77 and I always thought if we could work smarter we would only need one income 4 days a week but even though there are only 10% making steel, cars, or coal mines everybody is flat out.

The best suggestion I made was to build the Sydney opera house underground parking.

The number of electric bikes etc. seem to have doubled in the last year and I am not sure if people would be prepared to leave them at a bus/train stop but would prefer to take them to complete their trip.

As they all go different speeds the rule should be that if you hit a pedestrian or anyone slower then you are at fault and I know I have banged on about the Trailerbus that takes many electric bikes but really building a speed limited trial one is peanuts.

Although the Trailerbus would be speed limited , because it would stay on the main drag with stops only every kilometre, a trip from door to door on an electric bike etc. would be faster.

This is the email I sent to ESCAP today <www.unescap.org>

With the increase in the number of electric bikes and scooters perhaps a more adventurous country than Australia may build a speed limited Trailerbus. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... top-button

Although it may be slower than conventional buses, the fact that it only travels on major roads with stops every one kilometre the door to door trip for an electric bike would be faster.

Actually I was thinking today all back roads should be 30 km/h limit with cars having to give way to electric scooters, strollers, bikes, wheelchairs and pedestrians as many new subdivisions have narrow roads with no footpaths.

With the train unreliability it may be good to make electric bikes etc.legal, certain roads where cars have to give priority to everybody and trial a Trailerbus.https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... top-button

As there will be an increasing number of electric bikes and mobility scooters in the future it may be good for an Australian company to design a single deck carriage that can be whacked in the middle of DD trains while giving the guard something to do.

Everybody overtaking even in a car on a safe 30 km/h street or in a shopping centre should give a 2m gap.

I am against hire scooters because people who hire them are unfamiliar with riding them but if you own one then you may be interested in the Top 7 Riding Mistakes New Scooter Riders Make & How to Avoid Them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7vsfBO-6bo

Looking at the new intercity DD by Swift on the intercity thread I could not see if a single deck carriage could be used easily.

It would not be practical for an 8 car double deck set to have a single deck carriage inserted. In my opinion there is no need for such an arrangement.

Thanks for the feedback but are the new DD trains two lots coupled together that would make it easy to provide for any amount of bikes and overcome the standoff between the government and union.

Could you explain in more detail why it would not be possible?

Anything is possible. There is no intention of the government in having a single deck carriage inserted in double deck sets. If owners of electric bikes need to bring them on trains there is already ample spaces to do so.

I saw 4 mates at Kiama that used up all one end of a DD train but I suppose it depends on how many more people will use them but time will tell.
