^ Those VOLVO units are ex Region 9 Waverley Depot, there was some discussion about this in another topic area such as ‘STA Observations’ and ‘NSW Bus Observations’.

Noticed that Transdev John Holland has reinstated three Volvos at Waverley that has been deregistered and sent to Port Botany for store. Presumably to provide cover while the Custom Denning Elements are grounded.

Four Volvo B10BLE Phoenix Oranas returned to service at Waverley from storage at Port Botany on July 22. They are 3913 (rego m/o8486), 3915 (rego m/o8485), 3917 (rego m/o8436) and 3930 (rego m/o8483). Alongside 3921, 3923 and 3931 which were still in service, this brings the number of B10s at Waverley to 7.

The 7 B10s are there to replace the Custom Denning Elements, which are unlikely to return to service this year.

Are they school and peak only or can be seen anytime?

For the most part they are weekday only, but they are not limited to the peaks. Today there was one doing 313s and one doing 387s around 1pm, and I caught one last Thursday on a 313 out of Coogee around 11:30am.

It's good that the east got to experience them with their pillowy ride and rattle free bodies.

Spoke to a few drivers at the Kingsgrove depot. General view is that the Orana will be gone by 2023 with a few saying could be as soon as October that they are gone for good.

Just think, next time could be last Orana you ever ride 🥺🥺

Its largely just conjecture at this stage, and the retirement of Oranas at Kingsgrove are hardly reflective of the retirement of Oranas overall.

Kingsgrove and Leichhardt will probably lose their Oranas in the next 12-18 months. Other depots such as Tempe, Willoughby and in particular depots with Volvo B10BLEs like Brookvale, Burwood, Penrith, Ryde and Waverley will likely retain their Oranas for longer. Oranas have recently been returned to service at Penrith, Ryde and Waverley after having some TLC, so I doubt those depots will part with theirs anytime soon.

They still hold up very well appearance wise.
The STA were onto something when they said "but they look nice" when their longer wait times for repairs were pointed out due to the bonded glass. They were truly futuristic.

The last Scanias were built in April 1998, so will reach the 26 year maximum in April 2024, but many will reach that next year. Transit Systems have 79 Custom Denning Elements on order that will finish the remaining 45 Scanias and make inroads into the 49 Volvos. Given that many depots won't be ready for electric buses for some time, it is quite possible that more Volvos, which have up to 4 years of life left, will be cascaded to other operators.

Pulled out the phone to capture this unrecognisable altered rear end of a Scania today.

The Scania K310 and Mercedes-Benz diesel units at Leichhardt will eventually be transferred to Kingsgrove.

That is the standard repaint for ALL operators now under their contracts. 1249 has been in that livery since 2019 so that a recent repaint.

3843 and at least one other Scania were repainted in a livery that differed from normal a few years ago by Transit Systems with different shades of dark blue, different decals etc, possibly 1249 received something similar.

The dark blue in 3843 above does not appear to be any different from normal but then I am not good at seeing shades of colours,
And how would that compare with a more recent one such as https://www.flickr.com/photos/193972346 ... 360190402/

Can't recall, but this was my observation from 2018. Recall there was a picture posted of it here, but can't find it. May have been in that black hole where the search function ignores posts from a certain period.

The main diffference in 3843 is the rear lights, nothing like Orana standard.

3873 referred to here, was withdrawn and scrapped earlier this year - and similarly I cant find a photo of it is TNSW livery.

And I thought the black hole had been fixed.

Such a late build? The 38__ batch were smoother running than older ones.

While we are in oops mode, it was 3778 and 3783 that were repainted by Transit Systems in a modified version of TfNSW livery, 3843 is in normal TfNSW livery with new taillights as illustrated above. Looks like they were taken from the Volgren articulated spares pool

I have a photo of both but before they were repainted and both were withdrawn earlier this year. The fleet list shows them both as TfNSW with nothing about any differences. BUT 3783 shows the repaint taking place with STA but with a date after it went to TSA - strange.

They've changed the lower side corner panels as well as the rear bumper, making the rear unrecognisable like they've grafted a different bus to the Orana body.
I like this new rear. It's cleaner.
