Where 10 different routes all operated under the same number? That was useless and would have been more so today with apps.

I miss the two digit routes. 85 Eastwood -Midway Via Macquarie University and Macquarie Centre back when it was new and glamorous in the 80s.
89 Top Ryde -Epping via Ryde hospital.

The best.

The 362 operates during summer (technically during daylight saving time) only - so it won’t run from April 3rd until the first Sunday in October.

Re contracts for two Central Coast Regions and the remainder of the Sydney regions.

These are due to close tomorrow 30/6/2022.

I wonder how close they are to achieving this.

How will the bus contracts be issued if labor wins the upcoming state election there might be a overhaul of the method that the transport agency uses for these contracts Labor could move away for the tender bidding method that the current Liberal government uses for the issuing of SMBSC and OSMBSC bus contracts

As https://www.tenders.nsw.gov.au/?event=p ... E9A07D3287 states that the tenders closed yesterday with some others closing even earlier I would expect that most if not all will be awarded by the time of the election.

So I am not going to lose any sleep over this just yet.

This confirmed by https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_ ... _Contracts which shows that all contracts will be awarded by February 2023,

" Tranche 1: Regions 4, 12 and 14. Contracts for regions 12 and 14 can be consolidated in a single bid. Tenders will open between December 2021 and February 2022, and contracts are expected to be awarded in June 2022.
Tranche 2: Regions 3, 5, 10 and 13. Any combination of the four contracts can be consolidated in a single bid. Tenders will open between March and May 2022, and contracts are expected to be awarded in December 2022.
Tranche 3: Regions 1, 2 and 15. Tenders will open between June and August 2022, and contracts are expected to be awarded in February 2023."

"It was announced in July 2021 that OSMBSC regions 6 and 7 would be put up to tender. OSMBSC region 7 was put out to tender in September 2021."

While no date is given for region 6, it is expected that both would be done at the same time. And expected well before March next year.

Ignoring the pitfalls of assuming Wikipedia to be correct, TfNSW is notorious for pushing dates out when it comes to letting contracts. If there are still tenders to be let after March 2023, a change in government is unlikely to bring about a change in policy, given that much of the genesis of the current system came about under the previous Labor administration.

I don't care. This Liberal state government have run their course. They'll only get more autocratic.

I don't think the above date has been achieved.

The previous Labor government would review the contracts before issuing them where the current Liberal government put this tender thing in place

The plan was that the incumbent operators would be awarded one extension and then regions put out to tender. Was recommended by the Unsworth Report and accepted. Never followed through under Labor as they were out of office before the 2005 contracts expired.

Busways and Red Bus Services have had their Outer Sydney regions 6 and 7 extended to June 2024 by direct award.

That's a reprIeve for Red Bus Services. I normally loath small business with "services" in their name, but I'll make an exception as they have had it for decades and I have nothing but fond memories of the outfit since I first came across them as a 9 year old in the beginning of 1983.

So it looks as though the possible option of combining regions 12 and 14 wont be taken up.

One bidder dropping out of the running, doesn't mean that those still in it haven't lodged combined bids. Given that a combined bid should generate economies of scale savings such as the ability to reduce dead running, it would be a surprise if any singular bids are successful.

The new combined contracts, if created, would purely be combined into the one contract, as region 11 was combined into region 10 some years ago.

The joint does NOT refer to more than one operator operating the one region.

Oh. Does this mean a region number is lost. Example region 10 and 11 become a larger region 10 and there's no longer an 11?

I’ve seen a number of written posts on Facebook with people saying in various ways that ‘they have heard that Busways was successful’ regarding Region 12. Time will tell it this info is genuine (leaked) or just over excited gunzels hoping that a fantasy becomes real.
