Daylight saving is a stupid northern hemisphere snow-country relic, I'd rather it be dark at 6PM in the middle of summer than still hovering around 35°C for another three hours.

The humidity in Melbourne was bad enough last month with temperatures rarely dropping below 20 by 7AM before jumping straight back up to the 30s. The Fremantle Doctor was apparently on strike this year so southern WA has also copped it badly too, despite not having DST.

Brisbane Times--->Thirty years since the daylight saving poll, a new generation deserves its say
If Labor can lead against those who refuse to get vaccinated, then surely they can lead against the small minority who are not for any form of daylight saving,” he said.

Central to opposition from the north-west of the state is the impost a change in timezone would have in those hot regions that already have later sunsets. In Mr Katter’s petition, he notes Queensland’s geographic divide.

“Recent university research has claimed that [daylight saving time] is supported by 60 per cent of Queenslanders, and therefore it should be introduced immediately,” he said.

“However, this is underwhelming support when considering 73 per cent of Queenslanders live in the south-east corner, which is the only region in the state that typically desires longer days.”

To allay concerns from rural Queensland, Mr Lloyd suggested following the lead of New South Wales. There, the outback town of Broken Hill, not far from the South Australian border, operates on Central time.

If you didn't have Daylight Saving in Melbourne the sun would start rising at 4.40 am in January.

Humidity always higher when the sun goes down compared to when it is up.

Brisbane Times---> Pressure mounts for daylight saving poll, and this time Premier is listening
"And, for the first time since she was elected Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk has opened the door to the prospect."

"Premier is happy to hear the views of the [Local Government Association of Queensland], whose mayors represent all Queensland communities."

Brisbane Times --- As southerners prepare to wind clocks ahead, most Queenslanders want the same
The news
Two-thirds of Queenslanders would support the introduction of daylight saving, what’s described as the first comprehensive national survey on the issue has found.

Nationwide support sits at 80 per cent, and is highest in the ACT and southern states where it is observed – where clocks will get their annual hour wind-ahead from 2am on Sunday.

I live in Adelaide, and hate Daylight “savings” with a burning passion. Just as it starts to become light early in the morning, everyone changes their clocks together to plunge early morning workers into darkness for another month or two. Then carry on as if we have “saved” an hour of daylight - we haven’t, just moved it. And what are we saving it for anyway - there are still only 24 hours in a day! Grr

1194 used to be a telephone number that one could dial to obtain the current time. That service finished four years ago, in 2019. It has been recreated online at http://1194online.com/
