Changes for the start of school 2022, the usual tweaks, plus some vaguely-interesting route extensions to cater for school travel. The school changes largely mirror the announcement linked, so won't repeat those - but one particularly interesting one was the removal of School Special 784 from Santa Maria, with Special 783 being rerouted
to make up the loss.

Route 569? Is this a hint of a new route? I would be disappointed if a shortened version of another route takes its own unique number

So, the 569 has been around for the last 6 months at least, only doing an school afternoon trip. It wasn't printed on the timetable, it only showed up on the app - a 'glorified' school run.

Cheers! :)
Officially the last person to tag off the 381 - 20/5/16.
Second last person to tag off the last timetabled 16 - 23/08/19.
Last person to tag off a Transdev Joondalup service - 19/1/20.

Routes 279, 281 and 534 come to mind as school services which are not designated 7XX. Does 586 qualify too?

I wonder if the 103 is soon to be withdrawn - it is basically just duplicating the 995 and Purple Cat at this point.

Surprised they didn't expand the FTZ with these changes. As was the case with Freo CATs (Blues) before COVID, in spite of passengers to & from the train having access to the 532, 998 and 999 along South Tce, which would cost them no extra, they piled onto, and routinely completely filled the CATs, perceiving them to be "free".
The same will likely happen with the Purple CAT at EQ for anyone transferring from another service, resulting in it overcrowding, and other services running relatively empty. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Palmyra assists with peak period supplementary trips with articulated buses, as they already do with Reds. It stunned me how easily an artic can be filled on the Western-only (004) Red loop in peaks, as the extra trips create a truly turn-up-and-go service of about 1-2min frequency.

I notice they're also making the CATs run to a stop-request system, which will save time. With two-zone fare cap, and depressed CBD visitation due to the pandemic, I cannot help but wonder if the CATs will ultimately be transitioned to a paid-for service (even if it is a special CBD token fare) to better-monitor passenger origin and destination.

A few more comments on the changes. Be warned, it may be a lot to digest!
  • If the unstated goal is to completely eradicate or drastically alter the 23, 24, 26 and 103 - why not run the CAT to East Perth (take your pick of a terminus), travel via EQ, and truncate the other services?
  • Can't help but feel the service span of the Purple CAT could've been better than what they've started out with, although the 950 will evidently provide the early/late buses for those who need it (at a cost!)
  • There are a few changes that create a stronger feeder network for the Fremantle line, such as the shortened 25 and bringing the CircleRoute buses past Claremont. I imagine with the Forrestfield-Airport Link (FAL) opening shortly, the case for running more feeders will improve with a train running every 7-8mins throughout the day between Claremont and the City. The 25 will have the benefit of being (almost) at the front doorstep of the two Claremont contract depots. Aside from layover constraints at Shenton Park Station and a degree of duplicaton with the CircleRoute, I am surprised at least some 950s don't run to the Station (or even to the front gate of SP/MC depots - less dead running, and you'd have a very attractive staff bus option for drivers).
  • It feels drastic, and very premature to be cutting services from the 102 and 107 so soon after truncating them to Claremont, given W.A.'s public transport has not fully rebounded from COVID, and the FAL is still some time off commencing operations. In the case of the 107, I'm not sure that there is even that much left to cut to "reduce duplication".

As the service still runs all the way to Fremantle at times, I have to wonder what is happening with all the resources being cut as part of these changes? The buses required have already been painted, and moved to the CAT depot at Claisebrook. The Government claimed the Purple was created with additional funding. So where is all this excess being redistributed, and when?

103 already is heavily duplicated by 998/999 between Freo and PCH. Purple Cat effectively duplicates 103 between Perth CBD and PCH.

I assume they're referring to the Claremont-Cottesloe short-workings- many of which (particularly weekday interpeak) are much less useful once the 998/999 diverts to Claremont Station

Interesting Route 95 (I still remember Route 95 being an afterhours and weekend service for Routes 91 and 92 which are now Routes 83 and 84) Is this similar to Routes 279, 281, 534 and 569? Could Route 95 ultimately become a Glendalough Station to Subiaco Station service with school day deviations to Bob Hawke College?

It's interesting how a number of these minor changes have come about lately at short notice, and were not included in the usual start of school shake-up that occurs with the network. It's not as if school start and finish times are a closely-guarded secret, nor are the train timetables (which are but two reason some changes have been made).

I have to question the need for more trips visiting Allambi Homes in Hilton, too. Aside from the place looking deserted, no one I know has ever picked up a passenger along that bit of the route.

Driver shortages due to COVID-19 from Transperth bus operator ‘Path Transit/Keolis Downer’ resulted in most Northern suburbs routes and some Kalamunda Contract routes disrupted.
Tuesday 8 March

Due to COVID-19 related staff shortages, some trips on the following bus routes will be cancelled on Tuesday 8 March.

Routes 19, 20, 32, 35, 36, 39, 40, 42, 55, 60, 66, 67, 68, 341, 342, 343, 344, 345, 347, 360, 361, 362, 371, 375, 376, 377, 378, 406, 935. 950 and 960.

We are managing these impacts to ensure the safety of passengers and staff while continuing to provide vital public transport services. During this time we ask passengers to be patient, plan ahead and allow additional travel time.

If you want to be sure your bus is running:

The best way to know if your service is affected is to download and use the Transperth app
If the app says LIVE then your bus is running and you can follow it in real time on the map, simply look for a yellow live icon next to the trip
If the app says SCHEDULED then there is a possibility that the service is running however you may want to wait for a live service to be sure
Please note that if your stop is one of the first stops on the trip the bus may appear scheduled until the driver starts the trip from the first stop.

Seems the bus route 549 is no longer a limited stops route from that date. However it couldn't found in any service updates so far.

I feel like that was mentioned somewhere, not sure where though.

Ultimately running at 30min alongside a handful of sporadic feeders, and the usage of the 549 being more local trips than Pre-SSR when it was perhaps more focussed on Fremantle, I guess this change makes sense. Although it's disappointing this is (yet again) another of those "oh by the way" changes, rather than something to consult the community about
